Contender for the worst album cover of 2021 so far - I'll have to check this anyway

The guitar solos on this album are fucking atrocious. Holding Poison is practically a less interesing version of Dear Rosemary. Dave Grohl has a great rock voice that is not suited for blues at all. Adding weird percussion elements alone doesn't make up for the fact that you can't write interesting, rhythmic parts. Dave Grohl is a 52 year old man, who writes songs about getting high. The pre-chorus in Making A Fire actually hits nice and is the closest thing paying hommage to the heyday of their career. There, i said it.

Allmusic says is one of their best. Sputnikmusic says its one of their worsts. Whom should I trust?

Making A Fire was real good tbh
some other solid tracks here and there but for each one of those there was an eh to meh track as well.
tbh, about what I realistically expected

The first song is actually pretty dope. The rest just kind of drifted by without me noticing.

doesn't allmusic force you to pay a subscription just to use their site now?

"Waiting on a War goes absolutely nowhere"
kind of makes the song title perfect if ya think about it

"Medicine at midnight howling, but it ain't no cure. I may be sick but you know I'm yours" *throws up a lil*
Also, Minutes to Midnight > Medicine at Midnight

thats not even that bad
edit: i listen to a lot of "core" so i think my lyrical standards might be pretty low

Well, I don't think the album plays to the strengths of his vocals and Dave Grohl would be the last guy in my book to ever pull off an authentic execution of a tender phrase like that lol

"Also, Minutes to Midnight > Medicine at Midnight"
well that's a given

This was the most underwhelming thing i've eve heard on first listen. I'm not the worlds biggest Foos fan but still enjoy most of their work. I do have some mates that are absolute fanboys and live and breathe everything they do and they are all absolutely ropable at this record.
Might require a few more listens to find some redeeming qualities. Quite staggered at the positive reviews i'm seeing everywhere.

Dave Grohl is such a nice guy and they're a great live band, but god are they boring on tape. I stopped listening halfway through

I sort of liked this. The creative energy is often misplaced but their heart is in the right place. This could grow to a 4 or fade to a 3 over time, but regardless I'll take it over their last two LPs. "Making a Fire", "Medicine at Midnight", "Holding Poison", "Chasing Birds", and "Love Dies Young" were all worthwhile.
