@ alamo , Yeah, dunno Potsy's problem against ATC.

"problematic lyrics to Sweet But Psycho ? Dafuq?"
Can't stand Psycho either, romanticizing mental illnesses is beyond awful and the fact that nobody bats an eye is just sad

I heard "Sweet But Psycho'" is semi autobiographical though. You're drawing at straws man.
you're just like me. you're out your mind. I know it's strange, we're both the crazy kind. You're telling me that I'm insane? Boy don't pretend

I think a bunch of men getting offended about a woman writing about the "cute but crazy" trope is a bit cringe/ironic tbh but thats just my peripheral perspective i haven't deeply listened to the lyrics or anything

I don't have a problem with ATC I dunno how you made that leap in logic from not liking that the album (on the version i peeped) opened with basically a glorified cover of an old pop classic
|
| |
mmm apparently to defend herself she did say that it's meant as in pushing you to believe you are the crazy one. Doesn't really excuse it imo as the lyrics are quite literally "she's hot but a psycho" fantasy (bar a line that barely hints at her concept) through a catchy tune in a video with knives and whatnot
"I think a bunch of men getting offended about a woman..." is some godly material for the real name section of the profile lol

lmao yeah it is
and i dunno i just feel like the "hot psycho" is such a malegaze trope to the point that i just kind of assume to give Ava the benefit of the doubt that she would be using it to make a point, you know what i mean? and as a guy being like "hey, Ava, NO, we don't portray women like that, that's problematic, BAD AVA" just feels a bit hypocritical
|
| |
Ah I see, my bad if it came off as a gender thing

I've just never really seen a "hot but psycho male" trope proliferating, or at least its much less common
So i assume this instance is reappropriation to serve a purpose/make a point
I don't think many women are out there actively trying to reinforce negative stereotypes of themselves
|
| |
Oh no I wasn't rambling about women stereotypes but rather on the portrayal of a "psycho" as macabre revenge fantasy. No wonder Wiki says she did receive some flak from organizations when in the video she lights a dude on fire singing lines like "grab a cop gun kinda crazy"

Not a bad pop album, but I'm torn between whether the super obvious samples and song lifts are strokes of genius or just annoying. They're freakin' everywhere.
|
| |
Kings and Queens - "You Give Love a Bad Name"
Torn - "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A Man After Midnight"
Call Me Tonight - "Relax, Take It Easy"
My Head & My Heart - "Around the World (La La La)"
Born to the Night - "Major Tom"
I know that pop albums commonly lift and sample from the past, but it's a little ridiculous that these are so easy to spot.
