Highlights on ...Is Doomed are still the best material he's written

Like, I really enjoy this but nothing touches My Body Betrayed Me or If I Let Him In. Maybe Twinkling.

The two singles are Is Doomed tier for me but other than that nothing else on here is as good as anything on there. On top of that, Is Doomed is pretty much perfect front to back for me. Succinct little album with not a moment of waste or meandering. This one doesnt have the same flow, track quality is inconsistent, and there are a number of rather questionable choices.

this is definitely not as good but a couple of these songs are rly good like ominous 80s and vulnerable

Is Doomed had a couple snoozers tho. I don't remember much about Unemployed and the Drive Soundtrack is cool, but kinda unnecessary

Yeah, these songs are great but he drags them out for faaaar too long. Bollywood is the perfect length, whole album needed to be more like that song methinks

my issue with this album mostly is that a lot of these songs are just like, one or two parts looped for what feels like far too long. it rly works on a few songs but yeah def some snoozers

best thing for sure overall are the lyrics. i read them all and wish i liked certain songs more just based off of the lyrics alone. definitely seems like he released exactly what he wanted

agreed My Body Betrayed Me >>>>

wonder if he ever considered the three songs on this that are the same one line over and over with different instrumental backing could maybe be trimmed off. it would be very enjoyable without those

I'd say the whole album is enjoyable but that's art, it's not always going to resonate with people. Dan's more about building mood and atmosphere and letting that sit for a comfortable amount of time, not about shifting time signatures or complexity.

^^interesting that you like My Body Betrayed Me since that’s also a very repetitive song (I mean, I like it too)

and yeah agreed with quetzal. Dan’s songs have always kinda taken their time, imo. hasn’t ever really bothered me

yea lol I'm not saying I want 16/14 time sigs from Dan or anything lol. most of my favourite songs by him are mega simple and repetitive, like Bloodhail, Haunting Presence, My Body Betrayed Me, Earthmover etc

all those songs have a really strong emotional core tho and they use their simplicity really well. I don't think that trio on here does either of those things. they just kinda bore me tbh

death sentences and my body betrayed me are next level for sure. the reason obviously being the 13/7 time signature and 4 tempo changes in both songs
