"supposed to be jazzy but they feel more like wankery"

I agree, certainly meanders a bit more than I would like, I think Handmade Cities was a lot more focused, and songwriting is better, and also more memorable

I am in the honeymoon phase with this album, unfortunately, I can see it dropping down in rating in the future for me

To be honest, it is something personal. When Sweet Nothings was released, I was incredibly excited about how Plini will develop in the near future. But, in my ears, unfortunately not much more than musical stagnation at a relatively high level. Certainly he is incredibly talented but i miss some experimental elements.

If i had to put these songs in two seperate categories, i'd probably stick I'll Tell You Someday, Papellito, Perfume, Ona/ 1154 on the more conceptual side of things as they definitely feel more grounded, or " technically controlled" if that makes any sense. The other ones are alot more hymnal, having just about the right amount of wankery kind of fun.

The chord change at 1:58 in Last Call and the little lick that follows get me every time

"Plini later backtracked and said that it was all an 'honest mistake' and that the musical director of the performance had used it 'perhaps' without realising that it would be an issue."

Oh come on
