What do you define as real hits? Just look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linkin_Park_discography,
New Divide (which success-wise was only 2nd for LP after In The End), Catalyst, waiting for the end, and Burn it Down charted rather high, other singles too to varying degrees.
I disagree.

Yeah if you just look at the alternative charts they were reliably hitting the top 10 right up until the end
Like sure they took a critical beating with nearly every album after this and they fell off of some people's radars once they weren't the Hot New Thing anymore, but they pretty much never stopped being popular and commercially successful

I guess I could kind of see an argument for this album marking the end of their tenure as rock tastemakers though? The cottage industry of Linkin Park-wannabes was definitely collapsing right around this time lol

It already collapsed before then, really. As as I mentioned in one of the early paragraphs, people's attitudes towards rock music was changing and they were being introduced to bands thanks to rhythm games (ironically, No More Sorrow was a bonus track on GH3). People were starting to embrace traditional/older things a bit more and Linkin Park were pretty much fucked either way, really.

@William21
Yeah, the problem with this album is that it just can't pick one sound and stick to it. That's partly why I feel including Given Up as an album opener was a huge mistake. Have it between tracks like What I've Done and No More Sorrow and you'd have a pretty solid "middle section" of the album. But as for the other songs, the ballady tracks and more experimental cuts just don't really mesh together. At times it feels like a bunch of experimental EPs randomly thrown together.

Think Given Up is the worst here. Chester sounds like he has strep

Given Up is Chester at his peak.
Not just those screams, but his voice is easily at its most powerful on that song. The guy could really belt out a high note when he wanted to

“ A Thousand Suns and Living Things were widely ignored with no real hits coming from them”
Wasn’t castle of glass huge though

The poppy ballads here are pretty nice tbh
Idk about Valenine's Day, but Leave Out All The Rest, Shadow of the Day and In Pieces are really good
|

Think shadow of the day is my favorite lp song. One of my favs of all time too

Shadow of the Day is pretty much the perfect mid-2000s pop rock song, like I genuinely think it's the best melody they ever wrote

Arguably yeah. So 🔥

thp is their worst album. i've never known a band try so hard to be metal and fail the way they did on that album
