On a more positive note, this is quite a good album

If he was a major creative force they'd probably just stay milquetoast and traditional like the Infernal Battles days. The creative core of the band is just two french motherfuckers. So no cognitive dissonance to be had there. Just some on Mikko's part for working with people that hate his guts to make good BM. Mikko's one chance was probably the "gypsies and street niggers" one. The Bardo interview from 2019 was like "we're anti-authoritarian, we're environmentalists, we like mountaineering, here's some stuff about George Bataille, here are some bands we like, etc."
Mikko's definitely a nazi but also definitely NOT the brain behind the band.
But yeah, this is probably my favorite bm.

Ahh, thanks for clarifying Million. Still think it’s a pretty bad look for the others to be so closely associated with a guy like that but, innocent until proven guilty, right?

Yeah, fair. I question their involvement with the dude myself, but I'm not sure what to make of it. But I do know I love the band as a whole. Even Mikko's vocals despite them not being anything over the top legendary. I just like to think that the creative core of the band are just some dark-minded but creative and well meaning dudes with a vision they want to realize. Maybe we'll see with time?

Yuh the perception that this is an Aspa project (when he's basically a session vocalist) is pretty annoying, but I don't buy the "mutual misanthropy" or whatever rationale for insisting on working with him.

Yeah, I think there's probably someone in the world who could match these performances' quality without being a Nazi.

yeah i'm pretty sure he doesn't write their lyrics and he's just a vocalist. some of the subject matter seems at first glance antisemetic but i'm pretty sure they're just telling stories from the pov of an evil dictator but that doesn't inherently make them racist lol

at least for furnaces. i haven't begun to dig into the lyrics on this one yet

I don't really even get anti-Semitic notes from the Furnaces lyrics. Just evil authoritative, indoctrinating force.

I still think its a bit fucked to posit someone who obtusely offers up "street n*****s" and "gypsies" as the forefront of groups of individuals that he hates before ".....and some white people ...." as a footnote as a misanthropist first and a racist second (if at all)
misanthropes don't have to be racist and use racist ass language. I think if, while explaining your misanthropy, you feel the need to specify marginalized people while specifically and intentionally using pejoratives to refer to them, you are likely a racist first and a misanthrope second. or someone using misanthropy as an excuse for your racism.
Like honestly I'm a bit of a misanthrope myself but when I talk about hating humankind in general you don't catch me being like "I hate f*****s, n*****s, and jews.......
....and also some of all the other people"

Yeah I mean when it comes to neo-nazis the definition of "white" is often incredibly arbitrary, hitler killed loads of people who would be conventionally described as white.

i mean i haven't seen him say one race is superior to another, it seems like he kind of hates all races lol. idk if that makes him racist by definition though. he's clearly a very hateful guy but bad language aside idk. i mean he could have said any group at the forefront and it would have sounded just as bad. but i think there's a fundamental disagreement here in that i don't think blacks are marginalized but i ain't opening that can of worms on here haha. i've been on a good streak lately on sputnik.

Something I want to point out is the collective of Deathspell Omega probably aren't exactly the nicest people they do subscribe to misanthrope, nihilism and metaphysical Satanism on the best of days.
Their hero is Bastille, if you look into his work he was a nihilist who spent a lot of his time focusing on violent eroticism in his most popular work the eye. Nitzche basically says fuck morals they're a distraction, focus on being the superior self which Bastilles most famous work focused on finding perfection through violent sex. Aspa is also a nihilist and runs a porn magazine, is open about his self indulgence on sex in interviews.

Reading Bataille, I’d call his stuff perverse but not exactly violent most of the time. There’s more nuance than pure nihilism and evil. More queries about the human condition. There’s definitely poignancy there.
And I doubt the French core are that mean. I mean, I’m a nihilist and a misanthrope too lol

The "I'm not racist, I hate all races equally" shit is so fucking cringe, just 10000% the dorkiest shit possible

Yeah if we’re talking misanthropy, I don’t see a point in making it racial. lol It’d be disadvantageous to me being black and all. Me personally, I generally loathe and distrust people collectively but I love individuals. And talking nihilism, I choose to believe it’s more about finding your own meanings for life and the world, rather than treating it all as if it’s worthless.
