I agree with you, Voltimand. I've always wanted to see these guys try their hand at either longer tracks (they have a couple such as "Burn" and "Walk Away", both of which are excellent) or shorter tracks (like two and a half minute tracks, as opposed to three and above). The closest they've gotten to doing the punchy, shorter track-style that I want to hear is on "Till Death". Can't wait to listen to this record, probably gonna be buying it at some point, gonna listen on YouTube for now, and I'll be watching their live show with a friend of mine tonight.

Criminal is real fucking good, I'm a big fan of the the subdued verses, Lajon just laying down the feels. Love that man's voice.

Wasn’t huge on the last two 7D records other than a few singles which was a shame cause BotS was so solid, first listen of this though and it definitely feels like they’re back on track

Seems pretty decent but it needs a bit more time to fully click I think. "Love" and "Criminal" are great tracks. Lajon is still my favorite singer, I love that voice so much.

Best album is still Black Out the Sun though. I miss that energy and the classic Sevendust sound like on "Decay".

And I thought it was popular to hate nu-metal bands. I should check them...

I never considered Sevendust to be "nu-metal" either, at least not in the generalized sense. Alt-metal is where they've landed for me mostly.

Yeah, really only some of their earliest stuff like Home could be considered nu-metal. They've been primarily alt-metal ever since Animosity.

I'm an old fuck, but once upon I time I was a numetal kid who attended a lot of Sevendust shows, and I'd say they were definitely part of that scene during the first three albums. Sort of a similar relationship to numetal as Deftones. They were one of the early bands, yet they always had their own style, and their melodic versatility allowed them to outlive the genre.

The music is rarely super new or intricate but the vocals have always elevated this band above the other nu-metal/alt-metal stuff.

I'm probably pretty biased here, since Sevendust is my favorite band, but I absolutely love this album. I don't think it's their best (that's a three-way-tie between Animosity, Alpha and Kill the Flaw for me), but it's definitely an improvement from their last record; which I still enjoyed, though it was the first album of theirs that literally made me have to turn the volume down because the tracks were so consistently loud and bombarding. Not sure what my favorite song off of this record is yet, I really like "Feel Like Going On" and "Nothing Left To Say Here Anymore" a lot. I love the layers to the instrumentals across this album, that kind of depth was really lacking on All I See Is War (except on tracks such as "Medicated", "Risen" and "Life Deceives You", which were easily my favorites from that one).

Lajon is amazing on this, the album's definitely among the best they have done recently, I still prefer debut and the sophomore by a mile though.
