I listened to Dangerous and didn't think it was anything special.

Well, it still sounds very much like Seether just with better songwriting. Clearly their best since Karma and Effect. I still haven't listened to Isolate and Medicate and I only listened to the last one like two times. I'll binge their discog in full as this album made me interested in them again.

I really like the opening track, "Dead and Done", and now that I'm listening to it again it is likely because of what Dr. Gonzo mentioned in them taking influence from 90s Deftones stuff cause yeah the heavy bass and screaming vocals just clicked with me and it's because yeah it defintely sounds like something Deftones could have done around that time. Good track. Still only half way through this, gonna finish it tonight but I like what I've heard so far and this is one of those bands I really kind of blatantly hated ten years ago for being such a weak reproduction of 90s post-grunge. This sounds like a markedly improved band just from a musicianship standpoint so far.

Oh, also, early Chevelle vibes, that's another one this record is giving me.

It's definitely better than their last few, from what I listened to, but I'm not sold. I'll always have a sentimental attachment to Disclaimer-FBINS though.

I'm the opposite. So far I am partial to late Seether just because it sounds like Shaun is doing his own thing rather than being discount Kurt Cobain. I feel like they found their own sound in the last two records (still need to listen to Poison the Parish more) and that Holding Onto Strings... and Isolate are transitional albums for them. I recently listened to Karma and Effect and it is nowhere near as good as I remembered it being lol even though it is a massive, massive improvement over Disclaimer II which I find a bore to listen to nowadays.

I've played little else this week and its replay value is great. This is definitely the best album of their career, albeit I know that doesn't say much.

I still haven't had a chance to play this even a 3rd time but I can't shake the satisfaction of those first 2 listens

I don't know if this will top my favorite Seether album (Isolate and Medicate - strange choice, I'm aware), but it easily has the capability to be next in line above Finding Beauty and Poison the Parish. Could also be the best Seether record outright, just need to let those hooks sink in. They're less immediate here but the heaviness makes this worth returning to.

It's like they got what they wanted to do on Poison the Parish just right here. The balance of heavy and melodic is nigh on perfect. I think the biggest surprise comes from it not being bloated -- a crux they have been shackled to since they started out. The only track that still doesn't gel with me is “Pride Before the Fall”, but all things consider, it's a minor error.

I absolutely can't believe these guys are still going, and that they made it in America.

Karma and Effect is far superior to this. This is fine, it’s a Seether album, it’s about the same as the last one. I really don’t understand why this is getting so much more praise
