cool. but did you know that he didn't actually call his project the microphones until the third crappy tape he made? fascinating stuff!

i think you're jealous that people care more about what phil had for breakfast 17 years ago than they do about your general well being

“If it's not on streaming services that means I can't listen while I walk my dog which means the album doesn't exist, great review though”

i hate bandcamp tbh

layout sucks but at least supports artists
also youtube actually pays way more than spotify does tbh

Not sure how I feel about this. It's good but I'm not dying to return to it.

That must be circumstantial. As far as I know you arent making any money off YouTube uploads at all unless you surpass a certain amount of views?

true enough, i think it's based off subscribers though and it's when you pass 1kish. could be out of date info though.

Also spotify can be much more lucrative if you get your stuff on popular curated playlists. I have a friend (bsd.u) who makes thousands off spotify. But it's also inconsistent
|

playlists are absolutely the way to go yeah, similarly anecdotal but i know a guy who had one song of his get put onto a lo-fi hip-hop playlist (one of the biggest ones iirc) for just one week and it got about 700k streams. unfortunately he sucked at translating that across the rest of his album as the rest all have maximum of 5k plays and it was the only deent song there tbh

i never got into the whole torrenting thing tbh, but the days of mediafire links before the purge were the best. i still download loads of albums just because i like to have them on my hard drive and a lot i like to play around with sampling and such, but everything that's on spotify i'll listen to there and if i like something enough i'll buy the cd

@coleton the ultimate final form for that was getting invited to the private torrent site what.cd, what a fucking dream
I fucked up my ratio tho and had to downgrade to slsk
|

the private ones always scared me lol, then again i was 13/14 and thought they'd send a load of police over to arrest me if i got caught

It was basically the best torrent site ever. Had everything you could dream of in any digital format and never problems with not enough seeders. But it was super strict to be able to maintain that, you had to fulfill ratio requirements of uploads and seeds or youd lose your download privledges and the only way you could join the site was being invited by someone already on the site that had a good enough ratio themselves
