To be honest I have a hard time listening to any complete modern era Katatonia albums anymore. Jonas’ performances are too homogenous typically and there are too many odd moments where the lyrics are weird and mess up the mood or where it feels like there should be a hook but there ends up being one added beat or something. I can mainly enjoy them in 3-4 song snippets now

All Katatonia songs are homogenous, even theri golden era suffers from it and Jonas's delivery doesn't help. It takes time and will to remember an album and find its nuances

I must be in the minority because I prefer the original VE. The guitars sound beefier on it.

Yeah, remastered VE didn't grab my attention. I was like ''oh, I see the difference'' and that was it

I haven't really liked these guys since Night is the New Day, but this review has really caught my attention. It's really a shame you don't write more often. I was going to eventually check this out, but you've convinced me to move it to the top of my list.

^^ Exactly this

Listened to a couple of songs, on first listen it sounds like they are moving further from the direction they had taken but somehow sound a bit fresher and that's good

I didn't even know they were back from the hiatus

On a quick peek this sounds a lot closer to TFoH than what the singles led to believe. Gonna jam ahrd when I wake up

I would give just about anything for a whole record of the downbeat minimalism of shit like Lacquer, Unfurl, Departer...

And 'eyo Flug! How's the birb community holding out through these current affairs?
