Pitchfork is useless now all they do is overrate woke pop/rap and most if it's fucking atrocious

i loved this but that didnt come as a shock to me unlike a lot of other commenters. i think she's been one of the most consistently great indie singer songwriters for the last decade or so. i'd say she's been improving with each release, and i'm not yet sure if this tops out in the storm, but it could definitely do so after growing on me more.
great review too

I think i'm beginning to understand your turnaround journey, boney
At first I was like: Eh, guess it's alright, but this is actually getting better every time i listen to it
It doesn't quite match American Weekend for me, but then again it's silly to compare those two

Just listen to the new Clem Snide and f'ck this off tbh
The Snide is a slow burning vaguely alt-country stunner

Not really no, maybe a tiny bit of Jeff Tweedy from time to time? I'd listened to his earlier albums and not enjoyed them too much but the new one just rings true

I don't remember her songs ever being this...I don't know, punchy/twangy. I'm digging this sound quite a bit.

This has a certain gravitational pull to it. Even on my first couple of listens when I thought it was just "ok", I still felt this inexplicable urge to continue returning to it. After a while it clicked big time.

"twangy"
She's definitely leaning heavily into her southern drawl this time, and I really like it.

A lot of this isn't clicking for me - I'm hoping it opens up after a few more listens

Still returning to this pretty often, but I find I love the style and her vocals a lot more than I do the melodies she writes here, which aren't all that impressive tbh.
