Album screams "we have no creative energy left (if we ever did). Here are some lame covers though."

Someone who likes the band should review this. They changed, you don't. Face it. It's okay to not like something, but to say is shallow or lazy is just disrespectful.

They went from some generical metalcore to a industrial-gothic-sexy-like metal and now they are more raw and pagan. Get used to it. They sound like they want to be like this.

I agree that is not a great album. But to give a poor rate just because they didn't come back to what the reviewer wanted is just tasteful. And a review shouldn't be. At least in my opinion, a review should say what it is. And this review does not do this.

fmelogeek, i don't think simon is being biased. here's a quote from the review that pays mind to where their style is heading, and how in this moment is failing at their intended sound:

"...it’s irritating to know it hasn’t made any effort in progressing this electronic-heavy sound in a way that’s interesting. Maria robotically croons her way through entire songs, with very little deviation from the fact; melodies are extremely subtle and don’t go anywhere..."

the album is disjointed and is irrefutably lazy, evidenced by three cover tracks and two interlude throwaways. come at me

I kinda liked this band back in the day, but everything they have done in recent years has been straight up cringe inducing.

I really got bored with that album . I mean I even couldn't listen to the entire thing .
The only good thing came out from this is the fact I'm currently listening to the masterpiece by queen " A night at the opera "

This group has a pretty great stage show, very entertaining, crazy visuals. Would go see them again.

Probably won't ever stream this again tho. the sad reality seems to be that Maria is becoming the product, not the music. Its the exact sort of thing she used to show so much contempt for in her lyrics in Black Widow and Blood.

All that being said, i realize this is a job to them and they gotta chase the checks like everyone else. I hope it works out for them, but my god this is some brain-dead songwriting. Literally copy and pasting lyrics from old songs.

if you look at a high res version closely a lot of it is just really sloppily pasted together

This voice deserved better music, however million and a half monthly Spotify listeners will disagree.

It's not the album I wanted, and my original reaction was overwhelmingly negative, but after two weeks this album has finally started to settle. It's difficult to get past the boring interludes, and the album hits a major speed-bump with Legacy, We Will Rock You, and Mother, but the rest isn't all that bad. Fly Like An Eagle is a solid cover. The In-Between and As Above So Below are reminiscent of Black Widow which I really enjoy. Born in Flames, God is She, and Holy Man have grown on me a lot over the last two weeks as well.

The production is shit, though. Compression artifacts everywhere.

If every song on this album was the in between, i would have 4.5'd it.

This review is probably damn near perfect. The In-Between aside, I was thoroughly disappointed with this one. I'm not as upset with Ritual, as it has 3 or 4 very good songs on there, but, this was really not good at all, and I am clueless as to what direction they are attempting to head into.

truth be told, i might be growing out of the in-between, and the more i look back on this album the more i dislike it, also this album overall made me look back at the rest of the ITM disogophy to see if it was as good as i remember. I am honestly tempted to bump this album down to a 1
