Cleans aren't the best yea but the music is just waaaaay too masterful. It's like Porcupine Tree I can easily look past to sometimes subpar vocals

How many times have you people actually heard the entire album? It took me nearly a year to get into Maudlin and I hated them at first. Honestly, I fail to see what's so bad about the cleans, they sound so charming to me.

Also, the songwriting is flawless. It's logically impossible to mix death/thrash metal and indie rock the way this guys did. The only band that came close to that level were Oceansize.

I've heard it plenty and I also have it 5'd so I obviously agree haha. They're definitely charming like you said but I can see why people would hate them.

How can you possibly not see why people might dislike the cleans on here!?

Thing is though, Toby can sing and sing well, like in Sleep is a Curse but ugh, they come out so poorly on this at times

I've heard it twice in full. I liked it a lot more the first time, but the cleans have since begun to grate on me.

"He's rather undeveloped vocals kinda add a smile inducing charm at some points though. It's not the kind of technically "bad" that irk me."

Exactly. Also, he NAILS it on Heaven and Weak.

he does a good job on heaven and weak, but marid's gift of art is really really grating for me

You're doing this album a great injustice by listening to it twice and then forming an opinion on it, I've probably listened to this and LYBM close to 100 times, they still rule.

If you have to listen to it that many times to get used to the vocals then they must be really, really bad.

I get that you can't rate every album on the first listen and some albums need time to sink in, but danielito giving it a 3.5 (great!) after 2 listens because he didn't enjoy the vocals is hardly an "injustice" to anything.

The more you listen to an album, the more you familiarize with it. If you listen to an album once, say you might get an earful of memorable moments and maybe that's all. Not that your opinion should be taken less seriously if you've only listened to an album once or twice, but you're going to come short with the nuances of the record and you'll probably only have broad, undeveloped opinions. So there is a certain amount of truth to it. And an album is a very different from a book.
