good review, but i was pretty blown away by this album - there were clear improvements over clean in pretty much all aspects for me: lyrics, vocals, melodies and songwriting. the 90s alt rock meets avril lavigne vibes are pretty irresistable. def my aoty so far

I just listened to "yellow is the color of her eyes" and it sent me drifting into sugar-puff clouds and orgasmic guitars. If the rest of the album is 75% as good as that song then I'm gonna love it.
Edit: OK so far it's not lol
Edit #2: OK but 'night swimming' is jaw-dropping
Edit #3: This has some breathtaking moments and others that either need more time or are decidedly mediocre.
Edit #4: OK it's already growing on me, nice.

I can absolutely see where this review comes from, but each listen draws out little things I love. Probably a 3.5 to stay, but a 4 wouldn't be out of the question if some of the more subtle songs gain traction. Yellow, Night Swimming, and Lucy are absolute aces, though.
