the fact that I'm not giving this lower than a 2 is impressive.

Roots is better.

This is slightly better than the previous one which I thought was a bit of a return to form (although Kairos wasn't bad and was a sort of return to form too)

It's good but not much better than the other stuff they've released over the last 10 years

Roots goes for nu metal/a punk edge in a few songs/the tribal thing/occasional industrial influence

For what it aims for it's way more satisfying than this for me

Thanks Hans bro, it's always nice to see you around.

The album was indeed a pleasant surprise. It's been a while since I've been this enthusiastic about these guys. Great jam.

Found this interesting:

Based on this (quadrivium), the band divided the 12-track album into four sections of three songs each. The first being thrash metal songs, based on the classic Sepultura sound. The second section is inspired by the groove-percussion oriented sound the band explored in Roots. The third part has more progressive songs inspired by the track "Iceberg Dances" from Machine Messiah, but is not all instrumental tracks. Side four features slow-paced and melodic tracks, similar to the song Machine Messiah.[2]

Yeah, I already knew that from my research. Andreas' concept surrounding No. 4 is interesting. Besides the attached credibility, one feels the album has taken its time to take shape. It's something to take seriously.

The first 4 tracks just fucking slap. Guardians of Earth goes hard too. The rest is boilerplate, but this is way better than I would ever expect from them now.

Some riffs could fit perfectly in Schizophrenia. The track has a nice pre-Beneath the Remains vibe.

MM was pretty ace. Definitely gonna check this soon. Glad to see they're putting solid material out. They're still a killer live band.
