A lot of fierce looks all round there
the overhead tracking shots feel somehow v deadpan in contrast to them

I've said it probably in this very thread as well as elsewhere but her personality elevates and illuminates the purpose of otherwise straight-forward songwriting and highlights the subtle irony of her work. Some of her older stuff like 'Horizon' is a better/more obvious illustration of her creativity and uniqueness from a song-writing perspective, but there is an inexplicable cheekiness to this that thinly veils her brilliance... just takes some familiarity to pull that back

I know exactly what you mean from other otherwise incomparable artists and feel that video for the Barrel got me on board. That and Weight of the Planets are convincing me, but I get the feel that she's someone you get to know better and better over generous amounts of time?

yeah, spot on.
i was already a fan of hers before this and that still even applied. i had this sitting at a 3 or a 3.5 at first but kept casually coming back to it when i needed something calm because it's just so breezy. kept finding i liked more and more of it each time. towards the end of the year i was starting to think about my year end list and i revisited it once again and i realized i was just totally in love with it.

usually it goes the other way around with stuff like this. on initial listens my passiveness compounds the exciting elements and leaves me with an exaggerated sense of affect that usually has diluted returns on revisits. so thats really what makes this special.

I know it's not on this album, but "stop your tears" is a 5/5 song and deserves ears at attention

I remember seeing her open for Deerhunter years ago and being blown away by the magnetism in her performative style. Was without a doubt the highlight of the show. Finally got around to this and some really lovely, tender songwriting.

in the spirit of plugging something not on the album, this live recording of swell does the skull is just about my favourite live acoustic anything filmed in the last decade
