ahhhhhhhh whenever someone speaks ill of a song because it plods/drags/too long, the first thing I always look for is if they have a Godspeed album at a 5.0
there's a lot of you out there and you all confuse me

I mean plodding isn't just about length. I'd say the same thing if it was half as long

Not sure where else to bump this, but fans of later DBTs ought to check out The Beautiful Madness by Jerry Joseph. Produced by Patterson Hood and backed by the Truckers (also features some slide guitar by Jason Isbell on one song). Has some protest songs very much in line with what's on this and American Band. Excellent stuff.

New album out this Friday, “The New OK”. The title track was released, mostly songs written during this same recording session and a couple new ones written remotely the last few months.
This grew off me after the initial reaction, but still high hopes for this new one

When my children’s eyes look at me and they ask me to explain
It hurts me that I have to look away
The Powers That Be are in for shame and comeuppance
When Generation Lockdown has their day
Throw the bums all out and drain that swamp for real
Perp walk them down the Capitol steps and show them how it feels
Tramp the dirt down, Jesus. You can pray the rod they’ll spare
Stick it up your ass with your useless thoughts and prayers
