That's the joy...we all take the journey side by side but somehow have completely different trips.
Edit: atrocious page break but imma leave it

Yeah, I feel like a hypocrite for saying this but 3.1 is kinda harsh. 3.4 would be ideal - just high enough that people would still conceivably want to check it and I wouldn't feel bad for downrating

That's why I just don't rate things I don't plan to hold on to... Don't want to have any influence on how others perceive it. Unless it truly offends me on some level.

That's a v respectable (and respectful) policy my dude. I mostly agree with it, but find it useful to browse my own ratings by year and remember albums that are worth another shot further down the line

Yeah that's respectable, but I too use ratings as a record of what I've listened to

There is just too much music my dudes. Sometimes I do see something mentioned or somebody whose taste overlaps with mine is repping an album I previously dismissed and I give it another shot, then I might rate.

Yeah 3.1 is wild but then again it wouldn't be the first time I loved something that was deemed average.
Event Horizon makes me feel like I'm listening to House of Sugar, Enough for Now makes me want to dance, Crash Cart makes me want to do something nice/pay it forward to shift workers (also struck close to home because multiple people in my family are RNs or work in hospitals in some way), Another Animal simply makes my heart swell with joy, Attacker is mysterious and enjoyable, and Blood in Rain is breathtakingly gorgeous. All the tracks I didn't mention are good too.

After one listen I'm between a 3.5 and a 4 here. I'm really enjoying it. Jumping right into a second spin before deciding where I land.

Sad to see you decided on lower after the strong first impression. This has held up quite well for me despite the middling site-wide average. If 2020 ended today this would hold my top spot; it's such a perfect blend of lo-fi folk and avant-garde pop that isn't meek enough to be boring nor showy enough to be off-putting. The lyrics have grown on me as well, especially on Crash Cart. There's a select few tracks that I find skippable - On the Outside, Dialing Drunk, Haiku4U - but I wouldn't have to skip them, and the strongest moments (Event Horizon, Enough for Now, Crash Cart, Another Animal, Attacker, Blood in Rain) more than carry that 4.0 score.

Yeah I know we're only like 5 weeks into the year, but as of now Loathe and Pinegrove are tied for first and this is my third.

Nice. For me it's this (4.0) and then Mac Miller (4.0) in a very close 2nd. After that Termination Dust (3.5). Poppy actually has a chance to move up to a 3.5 and challenge for one of my top 5 albums of Q1, which is surprising. Disclaimer: haven't heard Loathe yet.

make sure you listen to Loathe with a good set of headphones!

this is pleasant but never gets better than that. except for "enough for now" because of (duh) phoebe bridgers

The Phoebe feature is barely noticeable on that track, but it's still an upbeat indie pop jam. I love the production here, really elevates it for me.

Haiku4u is still a top 10 song of the year.
