“I am your lack of a conscience
I'm the ringing in your ears
I'm the polyps on the back of your tonsils
Eatin' your vocal chords after your concerts
I'm your time that's almost up that you haven't acknowledged
Grab for some water
But I'm that pill that's too jagged to swallow”
Fucking exquisite.

Should have ended his career with MMLP2. That album was decent but everything after is garbage.
Also,
The last two minutes of Bad Guy is probably my favourite Eminem moment ever. [2]

At least there's a good review finally

great writing as always, but in the second sentence:
"Em’s music career has been a peculiar journey and a fascinating spectacle to observe – especially in the most recent portions of his career."
I would change it to "especially in its most recent portion" to avoid the repetition of the word "career"

Awesome. Now instead of posting daily updates on how long they’ve been sober, all my Facebook peeps in recovery are just going to post about this for a month.

That hit close to home Spec, lol, too true.
This is...decent. In fact I like several tracks on here, I'd even say it's better than Kamikaze, but it's still so far from prime Eminem it's scary. Not good when every single guest spot are the highlights and make Em sound bush league in comparison. He still has some bars but they're buried in so much filler, much like his last few albums. Royce makes him sound foolish. Yah Yah is pretty disappointing too, had high hopes when I saw Royce, Black Thought and Q Tip on the track but it's just mediocre.
Solid 2.5-3.0 ish, I like it enough to give it a 3 for now.

Nailed this right on the head. I don't think it's at all a coincidence that in recent years Em has leaned all the way into chopper rap instead of the witty lyricism from his prime years. I'm not sure if he's simply run out of interesting things to say, or has just become disinterested. But speed rapping-while technically impressive- tends to mask that the MC isn't really saying anything of substance. If chopping on its own were a sign of greatness, rappers like Twista would be consistent chart toppers.
It's become increasingly obvious that Em should have retired after 'Marshall Mathers LP 2'. It's frustrating to think of that awesome run of albums from 99-04 being followed by a string of mediocre to outright bad projects.

Just played the first track... Basically just him talking shit about anyone who said his last album was trash (which it was) and reassuring us and himself that it was fire and that Rolling Stone sucks. What an embarrassing lyricist. All he does is talk shit about people dissing him and deludes himself into having this godly persona.

Darkness is amazing.
the rest is Kamikaze pt 2 just not as good.
and that Ed Sheeran feat is embarrassing.

"Bad Guy" isn't my favourite Eminem song, but it's definitely his last great one. I agree that retiring after MMLP2 would have been a good career ending.

Everything about MMII just screams “retirement album.” It’s introspective at its highs, angry when it needs to be, delivers when it counts. It’s not amazing, but it is faithful enough to what COULD have been Em’s legacy.
He literally says:
“So, one last time, I'm back
Before it fades into black and it's all over
Behold the final chapter in a saga
Tryin' to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle”
|
| |
his first demo tape would've been a good retirement album
