#1 trending, we have arrived
""how to tell if you’re a neckbeard: you think metalcore is stupid and silly yet convinced yourself this is quality stuff"
implying that metalcore is not a neckbeard genre

Still not sure what to rate, but Bloodmoney is ridiculously fun, amongst others

The whole album is fun but after two listens I'm not sure if it's actually good or not

Fun can be good. Not everything has to have actual substance.

@johnny no I wasn’t implying that, I’m saying both are bad

I got enthralled for the weirh mashup then saw one of her lives where she blatantly lip syncs any of the melodic part and got insta-turned off.
Disc is sligthly unsufferable at the end, yeah it's fun will probably spin it a couple more times but not much substance behind it, I guess it's one of those other discs where an EP would work better (e.g. PVRIS)

The last two songs are actually my favorites here. I'm addicted to the melody on 'Sick of the Sun'. Such a gorgeous tune.

lovely review sow. this is punishing though. the album art triggered me and then i heard the music... like a bad attempt to capitalise on babymetal in a different sort of way; a new low for pop has been reached imo. all these gimmicky ideas in the genre to be edgy.

Why is this a new low? Why does pop have to only be a certain way or can only branch out in certain directions and certain extremes? I haven't even heard it, but deciding it's gimmicky just to be edgy seems like a leap. Why can't it just be different than the pop you're used to?

i dunno, it just comes across as really forced to me. i'm all for experimenting but this just doesn't sound genuine. i know my take is reaching like lol. this just did nothing for me though

i'd also like to point out, i know you enjoy babymetal willie, but i think they're really gimmicky as well.
there's just something about super sugary pop choruses mixed with metal instrumentals, and it doesn't sit right with me at all.

Growing up when metal had to be metal, it was the same thing. People calling it 'cliche' and 'gimmicky' just because Cynic had robotic vocals and synth, or Atheist adding Latin elements, or Pestilence with keyboards. Originally people even complained about 'Fade to Black' because thrash bands shouldn't have ballads. Paradise Lost adding clean singing or Fear Factory mixing death metal and industrial. There are a ton of examples of shit that got complaints back when it first came out.

Really digging BLOODMONEY, but the whole thing is a fun seesaw of pretty and grindy.

@willie
yeah, you're right like, and i'm not saying they shouldn't do what they're doing. i'm just saying it sounds gimmicky to me, and that it does nothing for me.

I think the airy melodies trading back and forth with the industrial metal and DnB isn't something you hear too often - is there other stuff like this?

@DrGonzo1937
I won't dispute the fact it does nothing for you. Everyone gets their own opinion ;) And I'm not even trying to defend this album (I haven't even heard it), I just know whenever an established genre gets something out of left field it seems the first reaction of the majority is to reject it and diminish its creativity or originality or whatever.

Haha yeah I had a feeling you’d hate this Gonzo

yeah i get that. i'm also not one of those elitist types either - i'd just like to make that clear lol. but i just feel like the whole process feels very forced, if ya feel me? the first track on this opens with SOAD styled guitar noodling followed by the cheesiest j-pop kinda vocal melody you can think of. and it just comes across like it's intentionally juxtaposed like that to get a knee-jerk reaction.
that's the best way i can describe it haha. it doesn't gel well at all.
