He can’t help it. He’s also very neurotic with his ratings so he will 2.5 this, then promote it to a hard 4 within a week.

Idk what this will fall under. It really doesn't sound so dissimilar to every other dm album I've heard. I enjoy Death, also think Atheist has an awesome album in Elements, and another great one in Unquestionable Presence, but less so (bit overrated that one but still excellent). I'm super picky when it comes to dm. This tech stuff usually sounds self indulgent as hell. I don't care how fast someone can solo, the same way I don't care how loud a person's Harley Davidson is. This definitely has some elements that I like though, I'll play it some more and see if it clicks.

It sounds like you’re struggling to tell DM albums apart, I’d recommend listening to more of it, lol. Seriously though it’s crazy varied when you get to know it better.

Can’t they just release this already

I mean half the album has been released as singles and it leaked like a month ago

Demon: that may be. I've listened to a lot of sputnik favourites. I love atheist because they have that variety to their sound, this just seems kind of repetitive to me. Sometimes I like somewhat homogeneous albums tho. For whatever reason I think Ulcerate's Everything Is Fire is awesome. Cynic's Focus is badass too

You like EiF? Nice, one of my absolute faves. That’s not exactly a gateway record either. Have you explored Gorguts much?

I’m wondering the same thing Jester.

Maybe something to do with the physical distribution?

I feel like the relatively concise length here does this album a lot of favors in regards to its memorability
I generally agree about DM, it’s easily the least engaging/my least favorite kind of metal, but this stands out for me

Yeah this has length on its side. I'm probably going to listen to it more and warm up to it for that reason. The dm albums that are over an hour long are usually the ones I hear once and move on from

And yeah Demon I actually love Gorguts. Colored Sands and Obscura (oddly enough) in particular.

If you like Death you should like this considering how Death-y those leads are in the final track

There are times on the later parts of songs where I feel like I've heard some of the riffs from Starspawn.

Also, whats with the swirly effects on the rhythm guitars at times?

Either way, this is probably DM aoty for many.

I'm curious to see where they will take Spectral Voice. That album they dropped was murk paradise.
