YNYA didn't do much for me the times I listened to it, but I'm glad I gave this a chance. This is amazing. I should probably revisit YNYA

“lol dude's been calling this album of the year for a while now, WAY before album came out”

He jokes around a lot. It’s kind of his thing.

He described the album as sounding similar to the last few. Obviously he’s not going to say it sucks.

Still gotta listen to this a few more times before I rate it. I didnt realise til recently that this was an unpopular opinion but tragedy is still my favourite album from these dudes as much as I love everything they've done. Just feel like the whole emotive thing sinks in for me more on punkier simpler tracks like tragedy had than the riffy metalcore stuff that made TDBHAH, You're Not You and this. Still a phenomenal record as is the standard for these guys, but I worry itll go the way of you're not you and I'll spin it for a month straight and then just go back to tragedy

Huh. TWFU was my least favorite, but TDBH&H I really enjoyed.

That being said, Burn is a top 10 counterparts song imo

To me Tragedy doesnt get enough love at all!!! Songs like Stillborn, Thread, Resonate, Stranger, Burn, Choke and Drown are all amazing, hell the entire record is amazing, I think it just got overshadowed after Hell a bit.

Another banger of an album. I didn't think they'd be able to top You're Not You Anymore but this comes damn close and might even top it. Ocean of Another is definitely one of my favorite songs off this but the whole thing is just too good

The average still sitting in strong. Best rated album of 2019? Wouldn't find it undeserving, it's a banger.

Man you wrote a masterpiece of a review here, truly one of the best I've read on this site.

This phrase alone defines Counterparts' career:

"Like a statue painstakingly chipped and shaped to form, only to be smashed to the ground in discontent, this has felt like an ongoing process that never quite fully took shape."

Amazing sentence.

The first thing that came to my mind while listening to this record was Shai Hulud's TWBIT.

Counterparts have evolved into a beautiful beast, even if you never realized it, they kept increasing the level record by record... Just take a liste to TDBH&H to notice how outdated it sounds when compared to this and YNYA.

I'm still waiting though for this band to pull off a solid 5. I know they have it in them, but I just don't know in which way they could do it since IMO this genre doesn't leave too much room for exploration.

That said, amazing album and amazing review.
