2 out of her 3 genre tags on this site have the word folk in them
People may or may not be fixating on a minor detail instead of discussing the album/review lol

Yeah it's mostly a pedantic point. It just kind of stands out because you call it a folk album in the summary. Imo there's basically nothing of folk here, nor was there on My Woman, which was mostly indie rock with some dream pop and Americana (and even Burn Your Fire was pretty evenly split between indie rock and folk).

this is about as productive as arguing if Agalloch are really black metal, lol

Perhaps my lack of context with Olsen is showing, but I figured between the rampant folk tags on her page and the fact that this did not sound exclusively "pop" to me, that it was a safely accurate summary. Perhaps I can edit it so we can move on.

nope sowing it's too late damage is done we all hate you now

Yeah like I said it's just a technicality point, just giving the context to explain why calling this folk is objectionable.

It's fair, like I said, I'm not well versed on her approach and felt that "a blend of folk and art-pop" was apt. I've stripped the summary and review of any mention of folk, so anyway, beautiful album right guys?

it's not a big deal but yes it shows, she hasn't made folk music for two records, three if we're being real. i would think maybe the problem was that it felt like a bit of a statement / you were saying something by referring to it as folk in the header, in this context - specifically as if it were her making a New kind of folk album, was how i read it. which, i'd disagree!, but that's the context i read it in. because this is incredibly not a folk record, and doesn't even trade in anything olsen's done before, really, minus like 'intern'

That's fair, as the summary typically reads as a boldface headline. This was a passion review more than a thesis, as the original staffer dropped dibs I just felt like filling in with something of a hot take. I tried not to take too many risks with the wording - "to-date" or "best of" are clearly off-limits given the lack of context, for example - but I still got caught via the genre I chose to partially tag this as. I updated it to art-pop (just removed the part of the sentence/summary about folk), so hopefully it reads a little more sensibly now to the long time fans.

I can sympathize - there have been times I've wanted to write a review but didn't feel comfortable because I was new to the artist.
In any case I thank you for writing this (and it's characteristically great), I have a feeling this got less discussion than it should have in its first week because it didn't have a review (though the fact that it leaked probably didn't help either).

Agreed, leaks lead to an "old news" feel by the time an album hits its actual release date. I appreciate the compliment, and although I'm sure there were better candidates to write about this album, I can assure you that I did not suppress anyone in the process haha.

Yeah Lark is probably my second favorite here to the other bookend, Chance. Both are in my top 25 songs this year.

Chance is sooooo damn beautiful. ugh. Then, when Chance finishes and goes back into Lark, I can't help but listen to the whole album again. Such a moving album
