Elevator Girl slaps oh yeh

"Lol people still calling this band a gimmick huh"
They are a gimmick, and the gimmick is combining girl group pop sensibilities with metal. It worked out for them in the long run. Just because it's successful doesn't mean it's still not a gimmick.

I'm embarrassed to admit this but the Brand New Day intro had so much pow that I half expected Shiina Ringo to start singing Marunouchi Sadistic over it

--Is this one like the previous two where the only good songs are the 2-3 power metal ones? --
The only real power metal song on this one is the closing track.
Personal favorites are "DA DA DANCE", "Shanti Shanti Shanti", "Distortion", and "DxMxC".
--They are a gimmick, and the gimmick is combining girl group pop sensibilities with metal.--
Using that line of thought any band that deviates from a standard metal formula is a gimmick. Symphonic metal is a gimmick, Cynic is a gimmick, Paradise Lost is a gimmick, My Dying Bride using a violin is a gimmick...

they won me over with this one tbh. great review!

I'm not using the term gimmick in a negative sense, btw. Like, that's Babymetal's gimmick. That's all I'm saying.

--I really enjoyed the first record by these chicks, I might check this--
They'll never be able to regain the kind of vibe they had on their debut, because that youthful kind of innocence is obviously gone... but I'd still say this is the one to check out if you liked the debut. The second one kind of lost some 'magic'.
--I'm not using the term gimmick in a negative sense, btw. Like, that's Babymetal's gimmick. That's all I'm saying. --
I've always found people use words like 'gimmick' and 'creative' interchangeably based on whether they like what they're seeing/hearing/experiencing or not. If they like it, it's creative or innovative and if they don't it's gimmicky and contrived. So, that's how I was taking it.

Oh Majinai is so bad it initially made me dislike the album more than it deserved. I'm getting over it though. Still just wish it didn't exist. Also, it's too bad Up,Down,Left,Right,BBAB isn't on streaming. That is one of my favorites. The final half of this disc brings it home well.
I saw the band live yesterday. It was a blast. I got free tickets to the Aftershock fest. I just went on Sunday, but most the groups were bland as hell. Babymetal was the highlight. It looked like Japanese fans traveled to California to see their first shows after the album was released too.

hating on babymetal is pretty lame fam

Oh how I wish they would do more tracks like Road of Resistance and Arkadia.
|
| |
Yeah Oh Majinai actually shocked me how bad it was
They're always at their peak when they go 100% power metal tbh. A full PM-album with Su on vox would be insane.

You should probably remove ↑↓←→BBAB and BxMxC from the tracklist btw, they're only Japan exclusive.
|

which is bullshit imo

Japan always gets bonus tracks. I'm not sure why that started, but it's been like that forever. At least these days you can eventually get them on the internet somewhere. Back in the day you were just fucked.
