If I only liked Bleed American, will I enjoy this?

EDIT: I just listened to the two singles. If the whole album is like that, I think I'll love it.

This review has got me stoked for their next album in 3 years or so.

"Was expecting something that built on what they did in Integrity Blues, guess I'll tone my expectations down a bit."

This was my problem. I went in hoping for another IB and was initially disappointed. It's still a very good album, but it lacks that emotional atmosphere.

"Ive been wanting them to rock out again for quite a while."

I know I praised Congratulations but that's really one of a kind, the rest is pretty normal Jimmy Eat World pop-rock. When I say stripped down I don't necessarily mean raw/gritty, it's more just "not shimmering with pretty synths and ahh's" - if that makes sense, lol.

"Will never not be mega excited for a Jimmy Eat World album, and Love Never and All The Way are the best lead singles they've release in quite a while, so dial that hype up to 11 baby"

Careful. I'm a huge fan of the band as well but this is very much middle of their discog for me. I know I gave it a 4.3 but that's because I'm easily impressed and a tad biased.

There's a chance. This is not as good as BA, but it's stylistically closer to that album than it is to, say, Futures or Integrity Blues.

"This review has got me stoked for their next album in 3 years or so."

Hah, me too. I enjoy this a lot but I do hope they turn back towards their more atmospheric stuff for LP11.

I thought Integrity Blues was their last album or am I confusing all of Sowing's favorite albums?

Saw a live clip of 5:55 and I can't contain my excitement. It sounds amazing.

FYI it's 555 not 5:55. It refers to the fake telephone area code commonly used in TV shows and films, eg. 555-0123 I think I remember from the Simpsons. You may call the number but you'll never get a response.

That's interesting. I'm praying my pre-order gets here early. Waiting for Friday seems so far away.

Also, I found another review online with similar sentiments to this review

General message being that it's Jimmy doing what they do really well with few surprises

I'm excited for this one. Damage is a 5 for me, largely because it's Jimmy playing music that is perfectly in their comfort zone, and that's the zone that made me fall in love with them in the first place. And even if this isn't really heavy -- energetic pop-rock Jimmy is still something I've been waiting for them to focus more on. Bleed American-esque boppy tunes are what I've been hoping for for a while, and given this review and having listened to All the Way (Stay), I think I'm going to be getting exactly what I want.

I've probably jammed All the Way close to a dozen times. I've never played a pre-release single more than three times in my entire life haha. It hasn't grown off in the slightest.

If this is your hope then you'll be satisfied for sure

My thoughts exactly. I love the moody, dreamy side of the band just as much as their poppier side. They pull off both flawlessly.

Yeah man it's a great single. Not as heartfelt and beautiful as Sure and Certain but it's really fun and gets me pumped.

Thanks Jom! He said that the sax was supposed to be a gag on the NME interview as well unless that's also what you're referencing - something that just begins near the end of the song then fades away as kind of a tease - but I'm glad they kept the whole thing. Also had no idea it was performed by a band member of Fitz and the Tantrums. This is as much of a "basic Jimmy Eat World album" as I've ever heard; somehow, it's still excellent.

You said stripped back. Is there any piano or strings on this album?

Don't recall any just off memory, but it's possible there might be some light strings on Delivery. I'll have to revisit in the morning when I'm at my computer again and let you know. If there are pianos/strings, they're mostly negligible.

Broadly not into Jimmy Eat World as much as most of y'all, but the review is excellent. Piqued my interest for sure.

@Jom fwiw they actually did play another new song (Criminal Energy) on the Kimmel livestream, it just got taken off YouTube for whatever reason right after

some legend on reddit saved it, along with a fucking FIRE electric version of For Me This is Heaven, they're all here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7ufqdbelv8sm9uc/AADmaMbLtSFxRx6M4LInvF0ea?dl=0
