Not true, Angel Olsen might be getting an insta-5 from me too - I'm just not the one writing about it.

I'm very split on
Kaputt
Have One on Me (Joanna Newsom)
Quarantine (Laurel Halo)
Async (Ryuichi Sakamoto)
The back end of this decade has been packed with AOTD candidates

2010, 2017, and 2019 are my strongest years and this year only just got included today because two classic albums were released simultaneously.

Raw Silk Uncut Wood had its interesting moments but too much of it felt like background music.

I think RSUW is great but I think she's not the strongest when it comes to straight up ambient/electroacoustic

I'm also feeling this should be his last.

It would guarantee that he goes out on top, that's for sure.

Great review! I'm glad he went further in the abstract direction after ...Sky and Skeleton Tree. Who could've predicted that he'd pursue this direction across multiple albums hearing how he started in the '80s.

Agreed, no one could have predicted the visionary artist he'd turn into. Most of the time when an artist sounds totally different by the end of his career than he did in the beginning, it's a sign of success.

Yeah and they made incredible songs in the 80s and 90s too, in a completely different style. Cave & Warren Ellis are definitely one of the greatest songwriting duos of the past few decades imo
Kaputt is gonna make my end of the year list too. Agreed that the best years for music were 2010 and 2017, I'd throw 2016 in there too. 2019 isn't quite there for me but it's close, I'd say 2015 was better. 2013 was fantastic as well.
|
| |
2011 and 2013 have the most placings on my decade list, i'm thinking 2019 might be up there too
i think we can all agree that 2012 sucks, weakest year

"Agreed, no one could have predicted the visionary artist he'd turn into"
True in the sense that no-one would have expected him to take this direction, but I think it's more accurate to say that 90s Cave held up such high standards that few would have expected him to maintain them in the way he has
