are they still warbling and crafting poor transitions or are they back to being good again

I certainly hope this album will be excellent. Though I don't expect it to mesmerize me like their earlier work did. Pre-released tracks were rather fantastic however.

til opeth has released three albums after heritage. not that i would not like heritage but that one always seemed like a death punch for this band

Yeah I'm a little concerned about this statement.

If Opeth went Shug-inspired djent then I'd insta 1 the absolute crap out of it and delete it from memory forever, even if the process involved extreme levels of unbearable pain.

Maybe I won't have to incinerate my mind if it's only a few minutes, time will tell I guess.

The Meshuggah influence is only that song, Charlatan. It’s a wacky track indeed haha, curious how it’ll be received.
The Garroter is a weird one. I didn’t say this in the review but it sounds to me like something from The Dear Hunter 5: Hymns with the Devil with this big band swing rhythm. Not sure how I feel about it.

Also Talons dude maybe I missed it but I didn't see you mention whether or not you listened to the definitive Swedish version, or the accessible English version? It sounds like you may have gone the route of English, but I'm curious if you had the chance to experience both, and what your impressions are

Pumped to hear this tomorrow.
Dignity and that b-side are so good.
Heart in Hand was still good but hasn't quite clicked fully.
