Honestly, I like a lot of this album, but it's so by the numbers I can't really say much good about it. It's the most metalcore an album has ever been.

"Wait, that's Snide??? No way!!"
I'm the Snide that's six years younger and actually liked Gravity.

There's something to be said for nostalgic appeal. This album reminds me of An Ocean Between us, which is one of my all-time favorite metalcore albums, so even if it's objectively mediocre I'm still going to enjoy it.

On the topic I was bringing up though, I was actively searching out for good bands to jam for a long time actually. This feels very fresh to me because it's a style of metalcore that I hadn't found much new blood in for a while. And that is not for a lack of trying.
A huge chunk of bands (even some older acts...looking at you, Caliban) started sort of riding the Northlane/Architects wave and becoming discount editions of those bands. Wage War is the most prevalent example I can think of there. Shit, even Kingdom of Giants ended up incorporating those elements on their last album, albeit in a much better way.

Almost every song sounds like a re-interpretation of "My Own Grave", same riffs, structure & lyrics.
I gotta say I think Jordan killed the drums here but then again i'm not super familiar with their earlier stuff so maybe it's AILD-drums by-the-numbers.

The drums are probably the most solid thing about this record. That said, the bar isn't exactly high...

Jordan is a pretty good drummer, but i dont even remember if his performance was good or not here. it was such a boring experience overall that not much stuck.

Listend to this a couple of times and can't help but feel that it sounds outdated from a songwriting perspective. Sure a few of the coruses get stuck in your head for the day but nothing to write home about. Additionally the mix is really bad for a band on their level of popularity. Tim's vocals also sound really bad compared to let's say powerless rise.

Just reminds you how good 'Anodyne Sea' is.

One of their best songs, agreed hard

It's my go to. I'd even go as far as saying the best break-down in metalcore (all)
*braces in anticipation of a Marskid retort*

I wouldn't go that far, but it's definitely well done and adds momentum

I mean, I've heard my share but I'm definitely more comfortable around the shrieks and blasts of black metal.

Well, I'm a core kid at heart but lately digging more and more into metal territoy and sludge. Never been a really fond of black metal, though I know it's pretty popular on sputnik
