Oh. Ha ha. I had to post it now. I kept listening to the album and coming back to the review and it was becoming a fucking monster. There was originally only one paragraph about the vocals, and next thing I knew Lars and Simen each had their own paragraph, and the music paragraph increased in size to make up for three paragraphs about vocals... it was bad.

I'm enjoying this more than I thought I would. As far as black metal goes, you won't find better "clean" singing. Easy 3.5-4. Note, I don't care for black metal in general though.

Ha ha. Anaal Nakrath is definitely not a gateway band to black metal.

Yeah this is one of those albums where if you don't like the vocals you will hate the record. It is so reliant on the vocals for its success but thankfully they deliver.

Based on the singles, it's already better than Winter Thrice, so you gonna love it, Hawks

This is kind of like a better version of Winter Thrice in that the title track is a lot different and a lot better than every other song on the album. I wish they would just double down on trying to be a melodic metal band, because they seem a lot better at it than writing meandering black metal-ish songs. There's some really great moments in most of the songs on here, I just think the songwriting could be tighter, overall.

Vortex kills it on both the harsh and clean vocals on this, though. Big step up from Vintersorg, in my opinion.
