got through the first 3 tracks on my way to work and it was beautiful, but not as dark/menacing as my expectations allowed me to believe that it might be based upon her image

maybe her old work is the way to go for that, but as my first Wolfe album, this is still very promising 4+ rating material

I don't know her stuff too well, but I want to say this is more folk-oriented than some of her past stuff which had a more industrial tone. Am I wrong?

Her stuff always was folk/singer-songwriter influenced first, you'll hear it throughout. It was til Apokalypsis where she incorporated more doom metal influence, Pain Is Beauty with different electronic shades, Abyss with more industrial (but that was for half of the record), Hiss Spun with mostly metal tones.

Pain Is Beauty is probably my favourite nowadays, really eerie/cold album.

aight what's your issue with the tracks on Hiss and Abyss that are still stripped down to Apokalypsis levels and aren't overdriven

Yeah, Two Spirit is folksy and way better than anything on her first couple of records

Honestly on Abyss I remember just finding them too plain and boring? I was so ready for them to be my fave tracks. And one of the specifically had tonnes of clipping on the acoustic guitar and it drove ke nuts. I forget which track but i was like the halfway point of Abyss. And Hiss Spun I can't even remember the album at all, I only listened once and it bored me so bad I have blocked it out permanently

OK so this is actually amazing. Something about this feels perfect for Fall/Autumn, too.
