I don't think I've listened to a record so many times in this short a time span in years. I think I'll dive into their other albums today.

They are a trip. Their first two albums are a lot more weird and random, but I had a blast listening to them.

Okey I might need to bump this actually. We're about ten days after me discovering this and I've been playing this at least once per day and I'm getting a stupid grin every time I hear this. So many feelgood vibes jeez.

Thus might have been a 4.5 if it wasn't for that rough patch right in the middle, Dog Song and Captain Awkward both kind of rub me the wrong way

Dog Song makes me happy. Love the fact that its actually sung from the POV of a dog. It's very happy-go-lucky.

Yeah it's a charming concept, I just don't think they really do anything interesting with it and the vocal melody is a lil too repetitive for me

Bumped it. Just keeps sticking in my head and I've listened to this probably 25+ times in the past month or so.

Replay value is important. I have bumped ratings up on that factor alone before.
You try their other albums yet?

Yeah but couldn't get into them at all. It's weirder and dorkier which I don't particularly enjoy more, sad to say.

Aw, shucks. I loved them. Just embrace the weirdness, lol
This is fairly different than the other two and seems like a slightly less amount of nonsensical lyrics sprinkled about. It kind of seemed like they really wanted to write music but didn't want to be an instrumental band so they just wrote whatever random shit popped into their heads.
Like T-bag Your Grandma from the 2nd album: What in the actual fuck is that song? It was stuck in my head for a couple days when I first started listening to them and I just kept randomly chuckling to myself. That chorus is just insane and, frankly, a little gross.
But still funny.

Yeah what I love about A Boat on the Sea is that its delivery is serious enough so that I can enjoy all the weird instrumentals going on. The moment the lyrics are whack too, it just becomes a meme band that I can't really take seriously.

There's such a Broadway musical feeling about this. I can't actually tell if there is a narrative being told here, but it would be amazing if there was. I've listened to this record about five times now, and it's mostly fantastic.
This is probably the most fun record I've heard this year, and 3.4 is like.... way way too low.
Name aside, I don't see any reason why this record shouldn't be taken seriously, or would be considered "cheesy". It's not a joke record, and it doesn't appear to be poking fun at itself or parodying something else.

I used up all my free plays of this on Bandcamp months ago but I'm trying to hold out on buying it until they announce a physical edition... The struggle is real bois

There is this thing called Spotify... and it allows you to play whatever you want for as many times as you want!

There are some surprisingly dark lyrics critical of society on this album.
