To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Autechre. The music is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the sound design will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Sean's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his software- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Marquis de Sade literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these patches, to realise that they're not just sounds- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Autechre truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rob's existential catchphrase "*STATIC SOUNDS*" which itself is a cryptic reference to William Gibson's Neuromancer. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Autechre's genius wit unfolds itself on their headphones. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

And yes, by the way, i DO have an Autechre tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

looking at the user ratings it's hard to not tell yourself "there really are opinions that were constructed like garbage, in order to be garbage"

elseq and NTS were great, but I have a feeling the 2 new albums they reportedly have ready are going to be on a whole other level. if AE_LIVE_MELBOURNE_220618 is any indication of what they're bringing to the table, they might even top Draft 7.30
