I understand it could very well be a deliberate choice. However, as I mentioned in the review, it is a mistake nevertheless. It's too strong a contrast that it damages audience immersion.

Heard their debut some time ago so I was familiar with their past work

“This is one of the least inspired emo albums I've ever heard.”
Pianos Become the Teeth would like a word with you

Great write up. I'm pretty hyped for this thing but definitely wasn't huge on the singles. Love their old stuff still.

I don't think you'll mind, if I never listen to this.

Thank you very much Raw. It's an album that can be loved just as easily as it can be hated or simply dismissed.
And yeah, the amount of division this has and will continue to cause is comparable to Wait For Love without a doubt.
@Uni thanks, hope you enjoyed the read.

So Mars you haven’t heard Presents? Cause this is a natural progression from that album and while I can’t say you’d necessarily enjoy this album more if you’d heard that one, you’d at least have some better perspective on why the vox are like this.
Personally, they don’t bother me at all and I dig the album hard

It might help show a progression, but that doesn't mean I would appreciate them any more. To once again use Pianos as an example, the path to Wait For Love can be observed from beginning to end. The result, however, is not satisfying with or without context; it cannot erase the negative characteristic in question.
And yeah, some people will dig it and some won't. I don't think it's preposterous to argue a vocalist can make or break an album. Hell, this same conversation happened some weeks back with Prince Daddy's album.

There is nothing wrong with new Pianos, Keep You is one of the best albums of the decade, and it’s an egregious insult to compare Kyles vox with whatever catatonic placeholder bs is happening on this album

Yeah, pianos is a bad comparison. The only issue I see with this is the vox whereas pianos had a very drastic style change. This album still slays and this band is pretty consistent with their work whereas pianos has changed pretty drastically.

I brought up Pianos initially because it was an emo release that ended up being highly divisive, which I predicted this to be as well.
|

I only brought them up cause Pika mentioned half-baked emo
