"I dunno how all these audiophiles can watch most live heavy guitar music"

The ironic thing is Baroness can actually sound great live, even better than on CD. Sure, some bands don't pull the tone as well as they do on tape, but even guitar centric bands need a good drum and bass sound and need to be mixed properly both live and recording.

what a moronic statement, not one I'd expect from Doof. unless you're just trying to make some snarky point about ppl who are overly critical on production (fair cop) but a horrible way of going about it.

I've yet to hear the new one, but the singles have been noticeably recorded better. The crappy production choices on this and 'Purple' ARE (allegedly) intentional, so unless the band retcon it out of existence, those were the statements that they were happy to stand by.

I fully get fan desire for remasters, or at least something that wasn't trash recorded. It somewhat undermines two really great records. Still love 'em, though.

Prod on the new one tends towards flatness but it's a fairly clear mix, their best-produced album since like red probably

When the distinct elements of baroness music actually come through it creates a three-dimensional atmosphere that is very much not present on purple or this one. I know there are great songs here and on that album but I don't want to listen to it because I cannot be present in it. This is a long-running and complex argument but I don't know how else to put it

^nope nope you are absolutely correct.

I updated the download link for my Gold & Grey edit/remaster; I realized I could reduce the clipping even further (about 25% more) but I cannot go any further than that. After several tests, I think that should do it.

I'm also sharing the link for Purple. I applied the same process I explained in the previous page. The sound improved significantly with this album, probably because the original mixes were not as over-compressed as they are on G&G. You will hear a lot of the effects and ambient stuff that is indecipherable from the original album.

Purple: https://www.mediafire.com/file/sn2fhelt0p69vcd/2015-Baroness-Purple_%2528Noise_Reduction_Edit%2529.7z/file

As mentioned before, I am editing directly from the CD FLAC files so it's top notch audio quality.

'what a moronic statement'

Lot of people on RYM rate albums a 1 based entirely on the production.

I've gone to shows with terrible sound and the performance was still amazing.

I'd say about 75% (maybe more) of live loud guitar music I've watched had in some ways 'non ideal' sound quality

Some demos of classic albums are almost classics in their own rights but have shoddy production.

I find it tedious to get too worked up on production in terms of really assessing an album - it's a factor, sometimes just adjusting an EQ mode sorts out making it 'much more listenable' in a lot of cases.

Literally the only kind of statement from Doof

good music buried beneath subpar or lofi production that's still possible to absorb in some capacity ≠ intentional sabotage that destroys any would-be musical element entirely and makes listening as uncomfortable as rubbing fiberglass on your nuts

'destroys any would-be musical element entirely'

I can count the number of times this has happened on an album for me on one hand really

I can tell an album like 'Death Magnetic' (and yeah 'Purple' I guess too) has irritating production but I can still enjoy the albums enough, it's a negative element that is regrettable but to some degree ignorable.

Maybe the fact I actively seek out music that's enhanced through 'intentional subpar or lo fi production' helps a little I don't know.

Anyway, don't want to be rude about it to anyone so 'to each their own'

God knows I've been to some really terrible sounding shows and I've subjected myself to crap sounding albums and lo-fi hell cause I like the music but this album in particular is just straight up unlistenable.

I have no idea what happened here, if it was a joke, if they were dicking around, if they had no idea what they were doing or if it was mixed and mastered by a drunk gorilla on steroids but this album is just nope.

The new one though... hmmm.. yes, quality.

True, I need to listen to this again as I do remember it being one of the worst ever and to that I would add 'St. Anger' as another that sounded like 'dicking around' and I could hardly get past.

I'm contradicting myself - sometimes a band take it one themselves to do a very different remaster, particularly metal bands, this could definitely benefit.

Then also...still not convinced this would be one of their best albums anyway.

New one is good yeah.
