They're pretty good songwriters and their tunes are memorable/catchy but I can see why some people might say that.

Anyone else reckon those album has a lack of high frequencies? Sounds filtered

Sounds like the highs have been rolled off a bit too low

Was not a huge fan of their last one, and on first listen this feels like a marked improvement

my wife told me "Changes Come" sounds like if Tame Impala were covered in sludge metal

The guitar tone on this is just so juicy I don't care what the songs sound like

Might be the only one that prefers Restarter to this. Sure, this is a little more colorful, but the riffs don't stand out as much to me (the second half of Restarter is particularly awesome and hypnotic - this one starts falling off after the title track). Still enjoying it though. Every album they've ever done lands in 3.5-4ish territory for me.

This is like a still portrait of melodic sludge metal. I can't quite discern anything actually happening.

Giving it another try today with fresh ears Doc, great review by the way.
Hearing a bit of Alice in Chains, Helmet and even Saigon Kick on this thing, it's definitely not as whack as I thought it was yesterday.

As far as stoner rock goes, I've only gone about as far as Sleep and found their stuff monotonous as fuck (do they know that keys other than C minor exist?)
So this album is really doing something for me. Might have to up my rating over time
