there's alternative dance ala New Order for rhythmic backing as well, that's what keeps the momentum going on a bunch of these songs. she pulls from a broad range of guitar rock to serve her pop intentions, it's not just copy-paste dream pop nostalgia as this review suggests

To write brilliant songs with a limited instrumental scope (although there are quite a few little instrumental touches on that album) is the ultimate - look at Pink Moon.
For me this album just amounts to very plain song writing.

Dang Lucid it sure sounds like this would be well served by a counter-argument review written by someone who loves the album

And yeah johnny I love you bruh but I think we listened to different albums. Some of these sentences (like the one lucid pointed out) are so head scratching. I will say though that this grew on me with repeat plays and that at first so!e of the songs sounded a little weak to me. The penultimate track is the only major misstep imo, and the last song doesn't work as a closer

"she pulls from a broad range of guitar rock to serve her pop intentions"
Will concede the alt dance, but both that and her guitar rock stylings feel equally second hand and unexciting

Glad so many of you are digging this though, and would love to read a counter-review if anyone wrote one!

Doof: he's a great lyricist and writer from what I can gather but I like so!e variety when I'm listening to a 20 track album. Pink Moon is great for many reasons but I also don't think it's his best for the same reason, it's kind of lacking in diversification

She pulls from all manner of tired influences sure.
Cocteau Twins mixed with New Order and some chart pop - put it like that then I see my difficulties here
This is like a lower tier early 90s album in some ways.

You’ve sold it to me doof.
Sounds quality!!

I dunno Lucid I vaguely recall someone gushing about this and the review they were gonna write for it

Listening now and ‘Unwanted Guest’ is still quite good
- maybe warrants a cheeky download.
The rest hits Zak’s legendary bin 🗑

Nah, that’s more hum drum everyday lifer than ‘talent school’ arsehole.

She definitely took a lot influences from the 90s madchester/baggy scene, but without the psychedelia. Also, Holy mother of god that's a long ass negative review.

'without a blush' has one of the most gorgeous choruses i've ever heard tbh

Don’t like that chorus, sounds too similar to something that’d end up on a synth pop fake out album
Also the Faithless style rave effect on Stay With Me is.... eh?

I swear I've heard the hooks on that song somewhere before. Prob from Happy Mondays or early James.

If I could kiss you one more time
Would it make everything alright?
Or would it just make me a liar?
How do you wanna end tonight?
With a shag love, any chance without the self absorbed waffle?
