Well, that's kinda the neat thing if you ask me. Some of it is blatantly just the AI - like "Godmother", but elsewhere it isn't as obvious, which makes it fun to re-listen to the tracks and try to figure which is the machine and which is the human side

True gyro. I wouldn't want to slight
this as it's fairly monumental but still sounds worlds away from truly pleasing to these human ears.

this is definitely something which the more listens you give it the more interesting and evolving it becomes, jammed twice now and I've noticed a ton of stuff I didn't the first time

Yeah this is definitely an album that rewards patience. "Alienation", "Frontier", "Eternal", and "Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt" are some of my favourite songs of the year, and only 1 of them clicked during my first listen.

i think there are times where her music is incredibly pleasing, for example on her last album (which is easier for me to refer to because I've jammed that tons), the moment the bass drops on Chorus just gives me brain orgasms every time

I hope I feel the same as you guys and hopefully your review will help me get there, I'll report back

Lol that's funny Sinternet, "Frontier" is the one I connected with most first listen. Still think it's top 3 on the album.
Ye pots, lmk what you think of the album. Seems like something you might dig.

I didn't mention it in the review, but I think 'Birth' is a really cool opener, as if the AI is booting up for the first time.

I guess the future will be instead of Spotify you have your favourite musical AI you subscribe to and it’s wired up to your body and mind responses and it composes music based on those in real time lol
Back to this album and I really want to like it as much as ‘Garden of Delete’ (massive similarities) but so far I prefer the sound palette from GoD and the fact the switch ups were more impactful and maybe betrayed that they were all human composed (or by someone who couldn’t help betray a song writer’s knack). I think Holly’s vocals are too omnipresent for my liking here too.
I like this though, and only two listens in, so it could still make that breakthrough.

Yeah tbh I don't think it takes much guesswork re: what is AI-created -- all the vocals/lyrics here are AI-generated by the sounds of it, everything else seems to be done by humans

Yep this is pretty excellent, very interesting sounds that actually create a really palatable aesthetic. Color me surprised and impressed.

I think it’s too one toned for it to demand enough replays to become a favourite.
It does the one thing well basically. If vocal layering/choral vocals were my absolute favourite thing musically I’d probably be ok with that. Holly’s ‘lead’ vocals also sound exactly the same throughout, they’re more machinelike than anything else, a bit ‘just there’ in terms of their impact and my enjoyment.
The album is admirable...but slightly worthy for me. I still see the appeal.

@doof: she goes for an emotionally piercing take on "fear, uncertainty, doubt", that sticks out. also it can't be just me who thinks she sounds like julia holter on "swim". there's quite a few vocalists so it rarely registers as just holly to me.

‘Fear, uncertainty, doubt’ is probably my favourite. In fact my favourite stretch of the album is Frontier to Godmother.
Though I’m only really including Godmother because it’s the most obviously machine composed - taken on its own merits it’s not as amazing as I’d like it to be based on that fact
