This is the album to make The Shins sound like Sepultura
This is the album to make Ben Folds Five sound like Mozart
This is in no way a slur but this is their most homosexual sounding album - and I like the gayest of the gay stuff like The Aluminum Group! It's a bit precious for me and SUPER camp thanks for asking
Lots of barbershop quartet sort of backing vocals and fruity stuff going on. One song even sounds like a less macho Ricky Martin.
I don't even know if any of the band are actually gay btw. Before I just thought they were very very bookish n' Jewish :/

I keep putting this album off because I can't tell if I like it or not and I have more... pressing matters to get to. I don't think there's anything wrong with being edgeless pop which they're relentlessly being accused of - so? Isn't the whole thing of music that you judge it on whether it's good not whether it sounds like it belongs on the Disney Channel or not

Good review I'd say - maybe I'd relate more if I knew the band's "lore" better, but oh well

the only gay guy left and now the band is unbearably white. seems like rostam was holding them back from falling into this goopy fluff

You'd certainly guess the gay guy was the least camp member of the band going by this, and why not, could be.
Seems maybe he has better taste anyway.
Holding out more hope for any music he releases from here really

this is one of your best reviews...i dont think ill check this in full but I'll def peep that Steve Lacy track because he's fantastic.

I’m steering well clear [2] there's no way I'm listening to 17 songs of this, especially when I thought their previous capped at a 3 at most.
|
| |
ok Sunflower is really fun and nice I dig it, music video was wacky too lmao that jerry seinfeld appearance

Ehhhhh that Steve Lacey song is unlistenable imo.
My opinion this is solidifying. Most of this is average or bad, some of this IS REALLY FUCKING HORRIBLE (Married in A Gold Rush, Sunflower, 2021) but the highs I really like. Album has 0 flow or cohesion, the retro-kitschy tracks collide hard with the guitar wankery on the Steve Lacey Tracks... I don't know, album has just a pretty worrying amount of bad ideas in it.
1. Harmony Hall
2. This Life
3. Unbearably White
4. Stranger
5. Jerusalem, NY, Berlin
There you have a killer EP.
Btw why is Danielle Haim featured on some songs and not featured on other songs where she's clearly also providing vocals (This Life, Stranger?)

I have nothing against Steve Lacey, liked some of his solo work. Just thought the songs on here were whack.
