hoo boy this is not a good album to listen to at work, this storytelling is gonna keep me from getting anything done. Hope I can revisit this and stare at the lyrics, because they seem rock solid

I keep thinking I have a runaway contender for aoty and then something else comes out these last few weeks.

The Big Thief has really got me today, totally unexpected that one.

Zak did you ever listen to the Swiss industrial band Young Gods in the 90s? Their new one is really good too.

I had this on a 3.5 at first because i thought it was the same album as last time minus 'God in Chicago'...then after five listens I realised this is at least as good as the previous album (a 4).

It could go up to a 4.5 - read my 4 as a very high 4.

I need to pace myself Doof you mentaller but I will check it. Digesting this, still loving Anathema and mixing it all up with The Who, Sleaford Mods, Maiden and jazz as always.

Ah gotcha Doof. I need to check God in Chicago, I've seen it favorably referenced numerous times already.

Sowing, did you ever listen to ‘God in Chicago’ off his previous album? That’s a song of the decade contender and equally sad, but even more cinematic about it.

I call it a ‘month off song’. If I listen to it too much it loses its power...but then if I leave it a month or longer and return to it I’m destroyed

Yeah that was pretty moving, I have to admit it. I don't know though it felt like him just kind of talking. I think I need to hear it in the context of that album to gain its full impact.

Yeah, it’s perfect in the context of the album. A moment of clarity/stillness. The big clear speaking emotional devastator in the middle
