This year will officially be remembered for its stunning folk records, I'm sure. We have this, Stevenson, Emily Scott Robinson, and Tallest Man. Nearly all of those are top 10 of the year material.

Familiar with this and Stevenson, didn't think much of the new Tallest Man, and will have to check the other artists named.

This whole decade has featured a fantastic evolution of the genre, it's a good time to be a folk fan

I’m hoping this grows on me even more. I do really like it, just not as blown away as everyone else I guess. Either way, it’s an improvement over his last one

A lot of the textures and vocal style reminds me of some of Lambchop's material. Stunning album.

"I'd like to suggest the term "post-folk" to describe works like this"
Damn son. I listened to this while in bed last night and didn't see this post yet. I remember thinking to myself: "Wow, this feels almost like post-rock on the first four songs". Spot on my friend!
Bumped this to a 4.5 btw, after three listens the first half clicked hard too, this album is amazing.

About halfway through and a solid 4.5 so far.
It's funny actually, Falling Slowly was one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar after hearing it through happenstance in a record store years and years ago.
The latter half of Don't Settle was such an absolute moment of goosebumps.
