If you focus on the music and nothing else, Sunn (and indeed mostly all of drone and to a slightly lesser extent ambient) is probably gonna bore the shit out of ya. I used to feel the same way about this band's music, but once I used it for a backdrop, my perspective changed.

I think ambient encompasses far more than drone. I love a lot of ambient albums that sound nothing like each other but the 15 or so drone albums I've heard have been pretty hard to differentiate, and when they're not they're still usually really boring. This makes me want to stay away from the rest of their discography.

I mean, that’s fair enough. I’m just personally glad I gave this band a second chance.

only ever listen to this band when reading and tbh there are much better album's for that. does a good job drowning out the douchebag on the bus with the boombox tho

I will say that I've seen some absolutely hilarious shit. some big bitch (not pregnant) tried to get some dude seated in the priority seating to move so she could sit, when he didn't get up she started making a scene that he "legally has to get up" etc etc. dude goes "bitch, being fat and lazy aint no god damn disability fuck outta here." yeeeeshhhh

I would basically only listen to this while reading too, and I also definitely have preferences over this, but it’s nice to mix things up, and this band scratches a certain itch. Idk about this album, but some of their previous albums pair nicely with a good horror novel.

I understand the genre, this just isn't that good of a record.

I think there’s a lot of dynamism in Monoliths & Dimensions even though it’s also clearly drone music

This seemed more locked-in than that record in a negative way but I didn’t really give it a chance so

how much does enjoying Sunn's music lie in seeing/having seen them?
