Need to check this at some point, didn't even know it was out. Somewhat low expectations, tbh.
'creating their best, boldest, and best sounding offering to date'
Said best twice in the summary, my friend.

the singles on this were pretty cool, but every album since antidotes has had at least a third of the album be bland filler, and this is no different. i keep coming back every album hoping they'll give me a bit more than a low 3.5, but they only every give me just enough to keep me intrigued for next time.

All of their LPs are worth checking, I think. What better way to listen than the order they were released?

Agreed.

Hmm... Yeah, that wasn't super great, and I usually enjoy their more rocky sounding songs. Maybe it will grow on me.

Really digging the new single, sounds like a QotSA song and that's always a good thing.

New single was pretty weak, they've never done the dumb heavy songs that well imo
All their albums are pretty different. I'd say start with Total Life Forever, that's their best and most highly praised.

(translated) extract from an recent article of "Le Monde" (french newspaper) :
"A rock myth is crumbling: Foals' leader, Yannis Philippakis, admits without shame that he only listens to traditional Greek music and hip-hop. When asked about the state of contemporary rock, the former literature student does not preach for his parish: "Music in rock has become boring, it seems stuck. It is now nostalgic and no longer seems involved in our time. ยป "
He should listen to more rock bands, then perharps he will realise that his "heavy" songs are completely generic.

Cheers, Talons. I actually decided to go about this the "wrong way" and started with this album. It's actually quite fun so far.

I agree that Foals' dumb heavy songs tend to suck. The two worst songs on What Went Down were easily the title track and Snake Oil.
Unfortunately there are a lot of rock fans whose instinct is heavier = better
