Michael is like 60 years old
Haha he's only 44. Pretty surprising given how long Opeth have been around. Steven Wilson is 7 years older than him but looks 10 years younger.

Why do people still believe that Michael has any reason to write/perform/record music he did almost 20 years ago? Clearly he's not into it anymore. He moved on, time for you guys to do the same.

The fact that songs like ''When'' which is NEVER played ever, and April Ethereal (again, basically never played) are cut out from the band's live shows is a goddamn tragedy.
Both songs are from My Arms, Your Hearse which is their most underrated album, along with Morningrise.
The lyrics to these songs are beautiful poetry and I would like to hear them even if he decides to sing them with clean vocals.

Damnation has many songs which are ignored also. An entirely clean album. 'To Bid You Farewell' is one of the most beautiful Opeth songs. It's sung with clean vocals. Does the band play it? Nope.

I also think Mikael should stop performing songs with growls at this point. He's gonna ruin his cleans, too, this way

Quote from Mikael: "We perform the heavy songs with the screaming vocals every night. It’s not like I’m ashamed or anything, or regret anything. I love those records too, and they are part of our discography just as much as the last record. They are as important as the last record, and I know that there are fans out there who want to hear those songs. So when it comes to playing live, yes we will do them. I’ll do those songs and I will scream my fucking ass off, if you know what I mean."
He acknowledges that the heavy songs are beloved by their fans and people want to hear them. As long as he's taking care of his vocal chords and not ruining his singing voice they should keep doing what they're doing imo, if they're not gonna change the old songs to just have clean singing the whole time, which would be cool too.

"Steven Wilson is 7 years older than him but looks 10 years younger."
That's cos Wilson is a magical ageless wood elf. The dude is past 50 and has only JUST begun to start getting grizzled.

What if he gave up smoking
|

the issue isn't them not playing heavier songs, they do play them, the issue is it's THE SAME FUCKING SONGS ALL THE TIME. Entire records are ignored, etc.
See the band Deftones for a similar thing.

Naw, don't be like that, they sometimes cover death metal anthems of other bands, like You Suffer by Napalm Death

I mean his harsh vox definitely aren't in their prime but they still sound very usable in a studio setting.

That's not how it works for Mikael I'd say. Sorceress was clearly written for live shows, the songs translate so well
|
| |
Is the album cover like a tribute to Deep Purple ? They already made one with Concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

Looks that way. I like it personally, also sort of looks like they're doing an impression of the Meshuggah singer's face from those memes haha

Snagged this from my local FYE store closing for like 10 bones. Great performance!

Decidedly I need to check this live album. As a great fan of Opeth, that is a need. Thanks to call my attention to it. It almost escaped from my radars. And yeah, the cover seems to be a tribute to Deep Purple really. Nice thought of the band. Nice work too.

The tracklist is enticing even though I’m not a huge live album fan.

I'd like to see them cut Deliverance out of their set tbh.
They play it every on every tour and they could easily swap it for BWP or The Moor.
|

Agreed so hard, would much rather hear those tracks than Deliverance.
