Mars compared the new album to Spiritbox so I am skeptical about a review being good....

New album definitely isn't on par with their debut y'all, and nor is it better than Rolo Tomassi lol, that soundoff is wack.

Its edges are probably blunt, much like the harsh edges of the album. . . . .

'New album definitely isn't on par with their debut y'all'

Until the closer (which I really didn't need) I think the new album likely eclipses this in all honesty. The harder cuts all provide significant slappage.

Too polished and too stuck in pretty melody land while losing heaviness and memorability. Still scores points (I mean I'm giving it a 3.5 and some of y'all are ready to murder me) but dangerously approaches Spiritbox levels of 'ehh.'

Spiritbox are baaaaaaad, I don't see that comparison at all

It has melodic moments, yet still knows when to bring the heaviness. A well-balanced record that's plenty memorable, in fact that's a strength - has some nice grooves etc. Idk, really like it so far (not ruling out a minor collapse after burning out on it relatively soon mind, feels like one of 'those' core albums... i.e. the opposite of a grower... we'll see I guess).

The grooves aren't hitting me as hard as on here, the bass doesn't interest me the sane either. It's memorable when it clicks, which happens fairly often, but also sacrifices a lot of heft in favor of melodic payoffs. Pleasant sound, no argument there, but almost too clinical and shiny to enjoy at times.
