Serenity kind of blew too. People overhype that one too much. It was stronger than Paradigm Shift though, I'll give it that. It's def the best of the last 6 but still not saying much.

Serenity was really good. It wasn't overhyped, it was just really good.

Speaking of really good, this album is also really good.

If you're fed nothing but shit for a decade, even a stale hot-dog bun is gonna taste really good after a while.

True. But we weren't fed 'nothing but shit' for a decade. Korn was shit, but there was plenty of other good things out there. No one had to come back to Korn. That's why Korn III wasn't highly praised even though it was better than their previous few releases... because nobody ever 'had' to come back to the band. People responded well to Serenity because it was actually good, not just because it was the best thing they've done in years.

When I said fed nothing but shit I mean in terms of KoRn.

I get what you mean, but it still doesn't change anything. People responded well to Serenity when they didn't respond well to Korn III because Serenity was actually good, not just because it was the best thing they've done in years.

I didn't get a forced feeling from III (that's Serenity imo), Luzier's performance alone was a big breath of fresh air

I didn't get a forced feeling from either album. I also didn't enjoy III much at all.

I've gone out of my way to try to like the recent albums and given them fair chances. I like the big grooves on the new one but most of the hooks just completely fall flat for me. And for every decent song theres a cringefest like 'THERE IS NOTHING IN MY HEAD THERE IS NOTHING'. KoRn used to be able to tug on my emotions a bit and get me worked up, last bunch of albums have made me feel nothing other than some mindless headbanging.

Ha ha. Korn have never been able to tug at my emotions. They've always only been mindless fun for me.

The first album is so raw emotionally and uncomfortable it still gets me a little. I would also consider songs like Make Believe or Hollow Life more than just mindless fun. Some of those classic songs take it a step further for me, they capture something genuine.

Yea, S/T is an incredible album. Just the raw emotion, the sorta gritty production, how different the music was for the time. And it still doesn't sound dated.

They often have something interesting to say musically, I don't consider them a mindless band

This and Violence are the only two I've heard, but both are awesome musically - agreed. I dunno, lyrically I stand by that they are beyond mindless lol. I remember seeing them live in like 03 or 04 and being really into them but singing the lyrics outloud and pausing to think "wait, what the fuck does that even mean?"

Doesn't really bother me. Some lyrics are about a feeling rather than the meaning, or the meaning has been obfuscated to the point of abstract. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. I listen to a decent amount of foreign music (also death metal) and I can't understand the vocals in the first place.

"Fieldy, head and silvera were good musicians. Davis is passionate as fuck, tbh the least competent member of that band is munky tbh"
I'm not sure about what I think of Fieldy, but he does have some nice parts. One thing they always get right is the drummers. Silvera was energetic, Bozzio was... well, Bozzio (the drum solo in I Will Protect You... damn), and Luzier gave new life to the band with his professional playing though he feels a bit underused after III

Nothingface is truly one of the most underrated metal bands that walked this earth. During the early 2000s metal saw a total shift of style(at least in the US, not so much here in Europe) with bands such as Limp Bizkit, Staind or Korn peaking high on the billboard charts. The thing about those guys is that they were around for a while but never really delivered much new to the Nu-Metal genre to begin with. But than there was this band with two of the best Nu-Metal albums I ever heard(it essentially has a Nu-Metal style). The best Nu-Metal albums(or the most tolarable one) came from the 90s, but then these guys(also Mudvayne, Nonpoint and A Perfect Circle) came around and reminded us that Nu-Metal doesn't have to be only Rap and whining about who can cut himself the most. No! These guys truly brought out the aggression that most Nu-Metal bands around that time were trying to deliver but couldn't. And even tho these guys had already album in the 90s, they realy started to turn better when the 2000s happened and they dropped Violence and Skeletons. What was always unique about this band and especially about this album is the amount of effort that was put by all each member. I for instance am not a huge fan of down tuned guitars because there are rarely any bands that took advantage of this tuning. Thank god these guys didn't relie to much on the drummer and vocalist only like most Nu-Metal bands did. In fact the guitars are very prominent on this album, with some very remember able riffs and melodies. One thing I loved about this album more then on Violence is are the melodic sections that were put in. Not only helps it the album too stand out among their other but it also creates alot of variety. The beginning track for example makes also great use of sound effects. Another huge part about the album is the vocalist Matt Holt who in my personal opinion sounds like he inspired Corey Taylor from Slipknot and Chad Grey from Mudvayne. He is one of the most distinguished singers I ever heard, having this weird half-motivated singing mixed with very angry shouts(that actually doesnt sound fake). He stands out the most to me in songs such as Ether and I Wish I was a Communist. The drumming is also very on par and heavy but sadly I barely hear the bass on this. On the other hand the lyrics are a very huge departure from Nu-Metal. Its more politically than self hating(like System of a Down) and also very well written. Overall this album is just very different from anything else that came out around that time and deserves a spot on my Top 10 Nu-Metal albums. If you love Nu-Metal that is actually not faking their anger and actually playing the guitar then listen to this album. You wouldn't regret it!

Agreed with most of what you said, but

1)Korn was original as fuck when they first came out and they definitely contributed way more than these guys

2) I would argue that A Perfect Circle is not nu-metal

3) The lyrics are dogshit and tbh are a little distracting

But yeah I always thought that Corey Taylor and this guy had extremely similar styles.

Agreed that this and Violence are up there as some of the best nu-metal releases ever, though
