I thought the soundtrack imitated the atmosphere of the movie perfectly tbh. It certainly set a unique tone.

with pots on the music tbh, I thought the simplicity and the repetitiveness of it really matched the wintry look of the colour scheme and the idea of spell casting through movement, it's hard to imagine a better piece of music for Olga's destruction for example. his vocals are definitely out of place when they pop up but I think that's the point

I couldn't believe Tilda Swinton also plays the melting witch and Klemperer too, she's an unreal actress.

swinton has now played an asian sorcerer, an old man, and a nasty toad lady. swinton is officially allowed to be anything swinton wants to be.

I thought she was excellent in all 3 parts, but still question the decision to have her play Klemperer. The make up was pretty fantastic, yet still deep enough in the uncanny valley to be distracting. I almost wish I didn't know she was playing him before going in, I wonder if I would have noticed.

I don't understand why they didn't just get a different actor tbh, I dunno I found it distracting and pointless

She also played a male angel in Constantine

I knew she played an old man going in so it was obviously easy to pick out which one but my friend didnt know until afterwards and was surprised

I liked this article on the film: “In its all-female milieu, one actor plays both sides of a conflict and the male interloper, too. These narrative bends and squiggles have something to do with transformation, psychic thresholds, the performance of gender, the dancer and the magician's ability to be two things at once.”

I like this a lot and the Roeg comparison (RIP) is spot on
the epilogue scene with Klemperer would have had approximately 20% of its impact if anyone but Swinton had played Klemperer, I think that's pretty clear

Don't Look Now and Possession '81 definitely came to mind, can't think of much else to compare Suspiria to

it really is, first movie I saw that dethroned Argento's Suspiria as the height of disorienting/fever dream cinema in my eyes, Roeg was the man. (actually having good acting helps too lol)
