I've discovered too many metal bands like Rolo Tomassi that are actually good to ever consider that notion again but I did once feel the same as you. I used to defend Phil as a phenomenal vocalist. He has about 12 different screams. I just don't enjoy butt metal anymore. Guess I'm growing up to be a get off my lawn guy or maybe I only like things that are actually good.

I wouldn't say "phenomenal". I know I'm probably extremely biased because I have a massive soft spot for breakup lyrics, but I do like his style.

"or maybe I only like things that are actually good."
okeydokey then, no point in trying to discuss different vocal styles and their purposes. I'm not sure why ATR is even being talked about in an Emery thread

the ringing of the bass on this album is absolutely glorious. we need more bad christian country boys getting into writing post hardcore music with multiple vocalists in one band whom transition into dad rock after 15 years. seems kind of like a niche thing though....

Lovely work on this, man.
One note: I think being too meta in-review can pull the reader out of things a bit. You do it well in the broader discussion of you becoming a fan -- that's all good and well and contributes to / frames the piece well as a whole -- but little statements like "although this may sound like a pointless introduction" are, ironically, a tad needless IMO. It creates a particular tone, for sure, but it also disrupts the flow of things, either a) forcing the reader to wonder whether what they've just read was pointless, even if it hadn't crossed their mind before, or b) justifying the opinion of a reader who did find it pointless. It's somewhat lose-lose in that sense. Best to get straight into things. Unless it serves a purpose, there's rarely a need to discuss what you're doing, and rather it's best to leave the writing speak for itself. A nit-pick if ever there was one, but thought it was worth mentioning. Nice review, regardless. [:

This album is great music wise. But for an emery album, just wish it had more of a punch to it like their other releases.

emery albums sometimes are never good on the first or second listen lol. Four of their albums are instantly amazing; this is not one of those albums.

The opening track is kinda lame but overall this is excellent. Lyrics really bring the feels

yea, the first track is a low point, but everything else that follows more than makes up for it.
“these guys are the gods of multi-vocals” [2] hard

the end of the first track is so good though, the payoff is worth all the meandering at the front. but yeah this is definitely the band's best effort lyrically, and that's a pretty high bar
