Great review!
@Tchitcherine Agreed, I think that's one of her all time best songs. Great vocal performance and beautiful guitar.
I like the album a lot, the addition of minimal electronics is a nice compliment to these songs and the vocals are given so much room to float around in. The only real issue I have is that the songs produced by Rizk sound drastically different from the rest of the record. Side A is pretty holistic and cohesive, but then Snake comes in at like 2x the volume of everything else, and the new version of Chapel is very weird. Kind of a bummer.

@Taxt Yes, I was annoyed by the different volume levels too. But overall a pretty nice album.
The lyrics of 'Uncle' are quite disturbing:
"Wet with spit, red with need
Three fingers in, you go deep
Reach inside me, please hide me
Somewhere they will never find me
I will always come to you
When I'm weak and empty
With my wedding night blues
When I need you to fill me
Like you do"

Saw her live once, opening for Citizen. It was fucking sludgy surprisingly.

Like 'Sludge', the genre? oO

Yeah, to mix it up, I guess. She had a dirty looking band behind her and she played really fuzzy, distorted versions of her tracks that tour. Nothing ultra brutal mind you, but definitely caught me off guard lol

I want to be a bigger fan of this, but tracks like Uncle are just so unsettling I find it hard to listen to this much.

It's here, added it to the database!

Really enjoying the new one. Very delicate, mournful, and the production is so much better than Heart Shaped Bed.
|

listening now, never heard anything by her before, it's a lot of baby talk vox - sort of lo-fi Grimes singing style
|
| |
finished that...trying the Ode to Dawn Wiener album and uh, it's already more compelling - goes for the dear diary sexual fantasy jugular
|

Doof, try Natural Born Losers I’d say, admittedly it’s the only other one of hers I’ve heard but seems to be the consensus pick for her. That said I can see her being kind of 3.0 ceiling sort of deal for you with those vocals.
|

I found the vocal style really homogenous first go but I’ll try some more - the ‘Dawn Wiener’ one was such a curio I’m sort of invested
