Great album, vocals always feel out of place with haken.

I'm just glad they didn't stretch a song just for the sake of it again. While "The Architect" had 4 minutes that were nearly empty in the middle of it, this seems more compact and focused as a whole. Only this weird passage in "Puzzle Box" reminds me of that sadly. All they do with that is eliminating momentum in my opinion.

“Vocals feel really out of place on this record”

I somewhat agree, there’s moments on this record that call for growls, but Ross’ voice is what makes Haken unique IMO. He’s like James LaBrie but with a voice that’s 10x better.

There seem to be some serious parallels to Dream Theater lol. James Labrie grew on me so much, even though his latest performances are so ... I don't have words for this

First impression: heaviest and most modern Haken album. The symphonic/70s prog influence is still there, but taking a back seat to techy riffs and keyboard parts. Like Dream Theater but heavier with some mild djenty stuff. I get the Leprous comparisons most on this album, and also some arpeggios and alternative sounding stuff like Muse maybe. Better than Affinity but not as good as the Mountain, as I love some more old-school prog and Mountain wins in the catchy melodies department.

I detect little to no djent sounds on here, which is fabulous. Can’t say that about Affinity lol

He sounds like James LaBrie a bit but much less irritating xD

That's totally true though I agree, still I think the bands sound would greatly benefit from a more powerful vocalist. His vocals can get really tiring at times.

He said in an interview his vocals would be a little grittier on this than in the past. I don't know their past material well, is that true?

Puzzle Box is one of the best songs they’ve ever done I can’t stop listening to it.
