Nothing really grabbed me out of that lot, some I listened to for a laugh obviously.

Nice, Skeletonwitch. Yeah I’d say the new Horrendous is worth checking, a lot of people saw it as a step forward, an evolution of sorts. I actually preferred the previous album (close though) but they’re not the same album.

I like the new Horrendous a lot too. New Obliteration brought the riffs as well

New Portal was also a beast, check that one as well doof.

Metal albums I loved this year: Voivod, Sleep, Obliteration, Horrendous, Deceased, Tomb Mold, Yob, Varathron, Evoken, Mournful Congregation, Satan, Portal, Thou, Sargeist, Hooded Menace and Vein.

Others are divided between "not heard yet" / "meh" / "complete ass"

Sleep was a bit "meh" tbh...If I want Matt Pike I go for HoF's

I was trying to recommend something not overly heavy or chaotic for Doof, not sure he could handle Portal or the like, he's a sensitive fellow (his words, not mine). Hehe.

I need to decide whether to cram this in before submitting my 'official' top 10, or whether it can wait till my longer 'list'.

I do have 'Nespithe' on a 4 I think and I've rated about five Blut Aus Nord albums a 4/5 so I can handle chaotic and intense/bleak - just has to be worth it as stuff like that isn't my high rotation music

I understand Doof, just thought it might not be your preference generally... was only teasing re the not being able to handle it bit, you did once say something along those lines.

This is definitely more in the 'Nespithe' bracket in that it does it's thing non stop with no let up to grab a breath of air.



Quite like it so far though - it has an authentic evil queasy vibe, so it's certainly not sh*t. What's considered their best album?
